I'm 34 and somewhat career hopping.
How do I transition from the nonprofit sector into consulting or a large company?
Based upon your length of experience you could probably go freelance and offer your services to clients...
I completely agree with the comment below. However, any career or transition should be carefully planned, and job requirements understood before leaping.
It's also understandable that one can feel a particular way about changing careers or figuring out what they are passionate about and discovering how to use it to land the job they love.
If you can, hire a career coach that you feel can help you gain clarity as to what to do next and how to go about it.
Best of luck!
I would suggest reading the article at https://www.asktheheadhunter.com/16568/how-can-i-change-careers. The article has relevant information. I copied the "Plan how to change careers" to give you an idea of the linked article. Note that I signed up for the newsletter that Nick produces and have purchase a book from the site so this is not a random recommendation.
Plan how to change careers
*First, you’ve got to know which businesses would stimulate you. That is, what’s worth pursuing?
*Second, you must figure out what’s the work? that each business needs to have done. You must research this carefully until you truly understand the specific problems and challenges the business faces.
*Third, you need to figure out how, exactly, you would tackle those problems and challenges so you could get the work done profitably for the company. Finally, you must show the hiring manager why you’re right.
