Laid off and taking time off- what should I tell recruiters?

I was laid off and want to take some time off to relax and focus on a few personal projects. I have some savings and feel comfortable enough to do that for a few months. I have been receiving messages from recruiters on LinkedIn. Is it ok to say something like "Thank you for reaching out, will be taking some time off to focus on some personal matters. Would love to stay connected for any future opportunities"? Thoughts?

yes definitely - places you will want to work will understand and value that people have times in their life where they have to step away and experience and grow in other ways. You got this!

If you have the opportunity I would speak with them to understand what the position is about. When speaking with them you can let them know that you would like to start working in X number of months. In some organizations it can take several months for them to complete the interview process. Also, your next dream job could be in one of those discussions.

I know you want to take time but the process takes longer than you think. So if you think you can, only take a couple of months. Not that you shouldn't do what works for you but I've been out for a year and frankly it's not getting any easier to get a job.

Absolutely, it's okay to say "I'm not quite ready yet, but let's stay connected" I've said it, sometimes when I was between jobs and like you, was taking some down time and sometimes when I was employed and I wasn't officially looking for a new job but I wanted to make a connection with the company and/or the recruiter.
