Software Engineer to UX Designer

Hello! Looking for some help with my career! I have been a Software Engineer for a little over 5 years now (currently located in NY) and I am actively trying to transition to a design position. I'm currently pursuing my MS in UX at ASU as a part time online student while I work full time. Would love to get any pointers on how to find opportunities in the design field. Looking to be mentored. I have had a bit of a rough time in my career growth and I feel like making this switch will help me find my motivation again along with exercising my creativity.
I started grad school last fall. So far the courses I have taken are: Technical Writing, Introduction to Human Systems Engineering, and Cross Media Design Solutions (where I worked with tools like inDesign, Figma, and Adobe Illustrator). Adding my linkedin as well for better visibility but I'm really just looking for a mentor who can help guide me through my career.
