Do corporate employers appreciate good graphic design?
I am an in-house graphic designer, and I have noticed that whenever someone else outside the department tries to do the graphic design project themselves. The upper management doesn't give them criticism as much as they give me. Many times they would pass someone else's work to me to make the edits. I often wondered if they know it wasn't my work?
You can let them know it wasn't your work and keep a paper trail outside of work. Corporations have in-house marketing companies, especially in the real estate and mortgage industry. Also, you big sports companies, Nike, Adidas, find a graphic designer recruiter here or on LinkedIn and give yourself a promotion and raise.
Hi, I am an in-house Creative Director. I understand where you are coming from. Many times, we have to track down use of our brand being used outside of our templates by those who are not in the communications dept. and let them know to use the appropriate templates.
I see you are the only designer. Do you have a creative director as your leader? That person should be building a brand strategy that would lead to less and less of this issue. If you provide the tools needed for the various depts, they will use it more and more and spend less time building their own items.
Why do they go outside of the department to do the project? Have you spoken to management about this?
They are the ones who encouraged this. I am their only in-house graphic designer - do you think they don't want to overwhelm me with extra work? It is my pet peeve to see someone else doing the work I am supposed to be doing.
