Hi Everyone!
I am a recent graduate and am looking for full-time employment in the DC area. Not in any particular field yet, since pretty much every job opportunity requires x years of experience that I do not have. My most recent work experience was at a daycare facility. Most job sites see that on my resume and gear all jobs related to that. However that’s not what I want to continue doing. I only worked in the daycare industry for so long so that I could afford childcare for my children while also finishing my undergraduate studies. I’m continuously applying for jobs yet never hear back or get notifications that I wasn’t selected. Any tips or Advice?
Use your existing network to leverage your connections. Talk to everyone you know about what you are looking for, even in just casual conversation. Sometimes there are opportunities hidden in plain sight, but can be revealed with proper communication. It is much easier to get hired without experience if you know someone, particularly when you are just getting started in your career. Best of Luck!
Start with researching companies you'd like to be part of. Meet as many people as you can in many areas of life and ask for a referral if things align. (I.e., church groups, volunteering, taking a course) - a great way to expand your network in a non threatening way. Apply for jobs that will get you in the door so you will then be an internal candidate and can learn the culture. Good luck!
