Transitioning from social services to private sector.
I am a social services professional (child welfare, specifically) of 12 years and I am trying to transition to the private sector.
For many reasons that you'd assume- low pay, bogged down bureaucracy, little room for growth- it is time for me to leave this sector. I do not have professional licensure (MSW, LPC, etc.) but I do have a master's degree. I have experience with community engagement, training, policy development and analysis, as well as some project management.
Tips and tricks for breaking out of the social services/public sector or stories about others who have navigated this kind of transition would be greatly appreciated!
Social work tends to be solid background for hospital or academic medical center positions. Unfortunately, moving into a new sector usually requires an entry level role for the first job. Specifically, you might consider human subjects research/IRB or compliance.
