Where to start
Hi all! I have been stuck in my job for way too long. I need to make a change after the holidays. My entire resume is filled with restaurant work, though I did a brief stint as a secretary, and day care work. I think I may need to change it all up and not work in the restaurant industry at all.... where does someone like me even begin? I think I would do well at anything once given the opportunity and any necessary training, due to the fact that in my work I need to be fast on my feet and attentive to multiple things at once.
I know I’m late to the game here with a comment, but I just wanted to let you know that I was in that same position years ago. All I had on my resume was restaurant work, and I didn’t want to do that anymore. So I signed on with the temp agency looking for work as a receptionist or secretary, and after doing temp work for about a year, was able to get a permanent position as an administrative assistant. I think it’s a good route to take, but you do need to have at least an entry-level ability with Microsoft office. These days you can pick up those skills easily online for free (if you don’t already have the skills). Good luck!
Hey there - congrats on the courage to decide that you want to explore life outside the restaurant space! I recently recorded a podcast episode on something similar -- how to get hired in a new industry with no sector experience. Let me know what you think! https://getcareerclarity.com/episode11/
