Hi Everyone!
I am a recent graduate and am looking for full-time employment in the DC area. Not in any particular field yet, since pretty much every job opportunity requires x years of experience that I do not have. My most recent work experience was at a daycare facility. Most job sites see that on my resume and gear all jobs related to that. However that’s not what I want to continue doing. I only worked in the daycare industry for so long so that I could afford childcare for my children while also finishing my undergraduate studies. I’m continuously applying for jobs yet never hear back or get notifications that I wasn’t selected. Any tips or Advice?
It's almost been a year, tell us how it went! Where did you land and how can we support you there?
redo your resume to show the skills you have, and list your skills first. At the bottom you put your places of employment. It's a functional resume. As a daycare worker, you have skills such as scheduling, event organization, managing personalities, right? You have A LOT of skills that will transfer to an office job.
What do you want to do? Do you have an objective on your resume stating what you want to work on?
What skills from daycare facility are transferable skills to the role you want? Are those achievements/accomplishments listed on your resume?
If you don't know what you want to do, have you considered interning in roles you might be interested in. Also, network and go to your college career center.
