Scheduling Helpful Hint

Scheduling Helpful Hint

When developing a schedule, remember that the people on your project may also have other tasks assigned. A rule of thumb is that when you consider administrative tasks, time off, etc. assume that will take about 20% of the time. And team members, especially subject matter experts (SME), may have other regular work or projects assigned to them.

So if a task is expected to take 1 work week, but the person working on it will only have 25% of their time to work on it, expect that the elapsed time it will take is about 4 weeks.

I suggest asking about the current workload if SMEs are in the meetings or called upon for help regularly.
