I've been there - How can I help you?
For the past four years, I've lived in the Sandwich situation. I've worked full time in a high stress executive position, been financially responsible for my college-aged kids, and helped provide care for three elderly parents (mine and my husband's.) In the last year, all three elders' health plummeted and we went through surgeries, hospitalizations, nursing care and end-of-days hospice care. The physical and emotional toll on me was never expected.
A year later, I am finally coming through the end of estate closures and wrapping up the aftermath of 2018 parental farewells. Our parents were not wealthy and did not own a lot of valuable property, so their estates were not complex. None-the-less, dealing with multiple deaths and estates at the same time was highly stressful.
I expected the emotions I felt, and still am feeling, but what I didn't anticipate was how my body would react. It's taking me an entire year to recover. And, as I write this it's dawning on me that I may not yet actually be whole -- back to full strength.
I started this group so women going through this can have a voice and get a shoulder or hand-up when they need it. I know there are some who are dealing with younger children's needs and taking care of parents while working. You need to take care of yourself! I hope this group is helpful.
