I want to move into a leadership position.
I have a Masters in Human Resources Management and currently working on another Masters' paid for a resume writer and coaching. My current position is program support and I am responsible for all administrative and budget work. I am having problems landing interviews for management positions. What should I do?
Hey, for management positions, you need to showcase some managerial experience. The best way to gain this is by working on a personal project/business/side hustle. It will teach you a lot about management and will make you much more confident in your next interview. All the best!
Why would you like a leadership position? What leadership position are you after? I recommend some research like reading, “What Got You Here Won’t Get You There,” by Marshall Goldsmith. Also find what position you’re after, work backwards to determine the steps, needs, competencies required, etc. Then create an incremental plan to achieve what you need to.
You got this!
Also, if your org/boss is in support try for the 3E model, experience, exposure, and education. You have the education, you can acquire the experience through stretch assignments and you can gain exposure with your boss’ support.
