Burnt to a Crisp
I'm officially burnt out on customer service jobs. I've worked customer service from being a cashier from 16 to 28 to working in two different call centers since I was 29 to now 39. I have B.S. in broadcast journalism that I've never used, my own fault. I suffer from Bipolar 2 disorder. I had a serious breakdown before work last Thursday and I haven't been back since. I waiting for my FMLA to see if it gets approved for depression, but I've decided to quit my job. I've been with this company for 6 years and the enviroment is toxic. People complain a bout the company and still slave at the job. I'm so tired of pretending to be happy every single day. I can't wait to quit this job. I know it's crazy to leave a job without another one lined up, but I'm risking my physical and mental health at this point. I'm seeing my therapist tomorrow.
I applaud your courage for sharing your frustration and laying bare the whirlwind of feelings and emotions you are dealing with. As someone who suffers from Bipolar Disorder, I can relate 100% to everything you've shared. My prayer is that you have been able to heal mentally and are on the road to renewed strength, confidence and clarity of mind.
Do you have short term disability benefits from your company? If so, you may want to find out how long you have to wait before you can avail of it. It may give you an additional cushion of time to heal and work on your next steps.
You are not alone. Customer service jobs is one of the most stressful jobs out there and one most prone to burnout . Kudos to you spotting it and knowing what toll it's taking on your physical and mental health.
Sending you encouragement and would love for you to share how it's going?
My FMLA has been approved for depression and I'm out for six weeks until 3/4/2020. I'm working on my resume and know this is the worst time to be job-hunting, but I've got to get out of that place ASAP.
I meant I'm out until 5/4/2020.
