GenX Women

I've been in my CHRO position for a year but not been able to make significant impact due to outdated management beliefs and systems of all my peers who are Boomers.

How would I talk about my current situation as I look for other opportunities? I don't want to come off negative!!!

I would caution about the use of the term "Boomer". You'll come across as dismissive and negative - the very things that you're trying to avoid. Focus instead the changes that you wanted to implement and what you bring to the table.

Describing the change you are trying to make and the resistance you are getting should be suffice. Be specific on the changes you were hoping to push through... I think companies will hear your words and creativity. I would leave out the "Boomers" reference. It in itself is very negative. I have people I work with in multiple generations and while there are stereotypes of each generation, there are also many with positive disruptors to those stereotypes... =)

I'd mention what you've learned there and that you're ready for new opportunities to use those skills and that it's just not the right fit anymore.

About this group

We went to college in the 90s, started our careers when cell phones were a luxury that came with a shoulder bag and fax machines were the newest tech. Here we are now, in what should be the best years of our career facing an ever changing work culture that sees established Boomers still running the show with Millennials expecting to be the next leaders. Meanwhile we just want to take a vacation, make sure the kids get to soccer practice and fund our 401k.
