GenX Women

I am in the process of pivoting my career.

I've left 22 years in marketing and moved into a completely different business in my late 40's. Has any other Gen Xer done this and if so, what advice would you share to other women in this community?

Well, not sure if this counts, but I went back to work in my 40s after being a stay home mom.

I am in the same boat. I just finished listening to Comeback Careers by Mika Brzezinski which covers this exact topic. I found it very motivating and it had lots of advice.

I am considering doing this. The first step is to find something I would be ok with moving into. Sometimes the higher paying jobs may not be what you love. Also, there are parts of very job that are less enjoyable. The next step is to get the skills/education to make the jump. While getting the education, start looking into areas to jump to. When done fulfilling the knowledge needs, start applying to jobs that you might enjoy.

About this group

We went to college in the 90s, started our careers when cell phones were a luxury that came with a shoulder bag and fax machines were the newest tech. Here we are now, in what should be the best years of our career facing an ever changing work culture that sees established Boomers still running the show with Millennials expecting to be the next leaders. Meanwhile we just want to take a vacation, make sure the kids get to soccer practice and fund our 401k.
