    I had this journey and can share my experience. At the time, it felt like professionally down step though it’s one of best decisions I made. Being an Individual contributor, I have more flexibility. As a technical program manager you have to be more hands on and get more involved in details of solution rather than the strategic aspects. Project management skills are useful.
