Every woman has (at least) one beauty product that they can’t live without. Usually, this product acts as more than just makeup. It’s a secret weapon that boosts confidence and kicks any self-doubt to the curb. No matter what we’re doing, certain beauty products have the ability to make us feel like we can take on the world.

Haven’t found your secret beauty weapon yet, or want to add to your existing lineup? Seven female professionals gave me the scoop on their top beauty recommendations — start adding these items to your makeup bag.

1. Foundation

Katelyn McCullough is the co-founder of Elwynn + Cass, a beauty concierge service. She never goes to an event or sees a client without putting on Charlotte Tilbury Light Wonder Foundation ($46, Sephora.com).

“Whenever I wear this foundation, my skin is luminous and smooth. It looks completely natural and as if I am not wearing any foundation at all, which is wonderful for everyday,” McCullough says.

Need another super-smooth foundation? Singer-songwriter Hayley Solano swears by Josie Maran Matchmaker Foundation ($42, Sephora.com). From practice to performance, this foundation is a win-win with Solano.

“It gives just enough coverage for a finished look, and is also lightweight which makes it comfortable to wear while getting work done!”

Samantha Merz, a temporary receptionist at BGC Engineering, has very fair combination skin. She says she feels naked without makeup in public, and wears Too Faced Born This Way Foundation ($39, toofaced.com) to work.

“I love it because the foundation is full coverage, and has a matte finish,” Merz says. “One day while I was at work, I got a compliment by a guest about how I had perfect skin! I couldn’t believe it. I have used this product on a daily basis since that day.”

2. Concealer

Justina Michaels is the owner of event planning and design company Fitting Fêtes. A typical day on the job means waking up early for a 14-16 hour workday. If she’s low on sleep, it’s up to her trusted concealer to save the day.

Two brands Michaels loves include NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer ($30, ulta.com) and Bobbi Brown Intensive Skin Serum Concealer ($44, bobbibrowncosmetics.com). Michaels often doubles the concealer’s duty: spreading it evenly to look like foundation, and look put together when executing duties for clients and vendors.

Co-Founder of organizing company Henry & Higby, Annie Draddy, swears by Laura Mercier Flawless Fusion Ultra Longwear Concealer ($28, Sephora.com).

“I feel like a million bucks when I wear it and my circles are miraculously covered. Who needs sleep, anyway?”

3. Lipstick

Not surprisingly, most of the women I spoke to love red lipstick — your esteemed author included! I get asked all the time about the lipstick I wear, which is Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick ($4.74, amazon.com) in the shade Certainly Red. I wear this lipstick every single day, and love how it can easily take you from day to night. I like to think a great red lipstick is its own accessory, much like a pair of earrings or scarf, because it punches up any look in a flash.

4. Teeth Whitener

Isabel Posada is the social influence manager at full-service branding agency FerebeeLane. The one beauty product that makes her feel like a boss is SmileNV, an at-home teeth-whitening kit.

Posada, who says she is self-conscious about her smile, loves that SmileNV makes her feel so confident. She feels great about speaking to clients without worrying about her teeth and has even received extra compliments on her smile lately.

“It gives me the peace of mind that my smile is glowing!”
