Betty Liu, Founder and CEO of Radiate, a media education company whose mission is to help transform today's professionals, certainly lives by her own career advice, which is to "stick with it." An award-winning business journalist and anchor on Bloomberg Television, Liu has followed an inspiring path -- but she hasn't sacrificed her personal goals in the process. She's a devoted mother to twin boys, and she admits that while she wasn't always sure of when she should have kids, she realized there's "never a 'right' time -- and some things, when unplanned, can turn out better than you ever expected."

FGB: Tell us about your career. How did you get to where you are now?
BL: I got here through a lot of failures and perseverance. The older I get the more I realize luck is only a small part of success. What matters more is 1. Preparation, 2. Perseverance, and 3. Willingness to learn from failure.
FGB: What is an accomplishment that you are proud of?
BL: Of course the #1 thing I think about is my twin boys. But I'm also proud I can look back still with few regrets. It tells me that while I've made mistakes, none have been so devastating as to derail me from my goals, both personal and professional.
FGB: What is a challenge that you've faced and overcome?
BL:  I face challenges everyday. One, however, that sticks in my mind is wondering when to have kids. I realized there is never a "right" time, and some things, when unplanned, can turn out better than you ever expected. I decided to just have kids whenever I could and miraculously, my career went into hyperdrive after. Sometimes what you fear the most turns out to be the best thing that ever happened.
FGB: Who is YOUR Fairygodboss? And why?
BL: I have a lot of mentors, men and women. It's hard to single out one person. Usually they are people who give me honest feedback and make me think of things differently. A coffee or meeting with them energizes and refreshes me.
FGB: What is the #1 career tip you'd like to share with other women who want to have successful careers like you?
BL: Stick with it. Consistency. It's so easy to do poorly at something and give up out of frustration. What you fail to realize is you're simply learning. The lucky part is that most people give up or have a hard time sticking with something -- so if you can keep at it, you'll eventually succeed.
