Can you tell us a bit about your path to your current role?

Five and a half years ago, I was hired at TJX as a security analyst. After a year of being an analyst, I was encouraged by my peers to apply for an engineering position. After receiving that opportunity, I spent the next four years in this new role.

Around six months ago, my manager came to me to discuss my career growth. He was very interested in having me become a manager. Initially, I was hesitant to move from an individual contributor role into a management role as I really pride myself on my technical knowledge. However, his encouragement and the encouragement of my peers played a big role in me taking this opportunity.

What do you find most rewarding and challenging about your work?

The most rewarding part of my work is collaborating with my engineers and making the right decisions for the team. Knowing that I can help influence decisions to move in the right direction for TJX’s security is a great feeling. It can be challenging with the number of moving parts and the volume of work in the pipeline, but that is made easier with a great leadership team and dedicated engineers.

Let’s talk about your TJX’s culture. What’s your favorite aspect of it, and how does your company help you succeed?

My favorite aspect of TJX’s culture is how we are encouraged to learn. We are encouraged and provided opportunities to work on different technologies, which fosters an environment for personal and professional growth.

What’s your go-to stress-relief activity or routine? 

When I get home from work, taking my dog, Jackson, for a quick walk is a great way for me to de-stress. He’s also the first one to bring me a toy when he senses that the day has lasted too long.
