Unfortunately it's a lost battle, I had a similar experience in the past and also witnessed others. They consider him a "rockstar" so they will never do anything to let him go. I suggest to run and find a better place with a better culture.

I think the manager does not want to get involved. She probably delivers, but on the backs of others. Maybe the best course of action is to focus on other aspects of the work to shine and document when something is not accomplished because information was not passed along.
