Kaiser Permanente is a great place to work in regards to work/life balance and accommodation for working mothers. I don't think opportunities are the same for men and women. It is a very traditional organization and men are treated more favorably than women.

There are more opportunities for advancement for someone who is a non-nurse professional on the medical group side. Keep your options open and work hard, and you will be respected for your contributions.

Women are in the highest positions within the organization. Outside the physician role, men are the minority (though that's evening out more and more.)
