Managers will not look after your career so you have to know where you want to be and work towards that. There's no coaching or mentoring at least in my department, so you have to be resourceful in educating yourself.

    I think this depends on the manager. Some managers don't allow employees to work from home. We're allowed to go once or twice a week.

    As mentioned earlier, work place is far (40+ miles) for most of the employees and involves lot of commute time. Should allow more remote work to avoid spending lot of time in commute which can get translated into more work and better work life balance.
