"Depending on the department, you could be very happy here. If you are in the Brand or Creative department, prepare to be in the "bro" club or not advance your career at all. "

"Overall it's a great company to work for, and some people spend their entire careers here. Experiences can very widely, however, based on your department/manager. Some managers are way more flexible than others with WFH policies, etc. There is also a visible lack of women in executive positions. "

"Working here has been a blessing. I just went on 18weeks of maternity leave. I get to work from home due to the pandemic and still raise my kid. And they understand that I am watching my baby and are flexible as long as show them I am completing my duties. I was able to be promoted within a year of working for them. I enjoy what I do and I love how open to communicating within the team. "

"Capital One is highly invested in developing their employees' talents, keeping us mentally balanced, and compensating employees at or above the market rate. Continuous learning is at the forefront of their principals. There is an inclusive culture that has become much more diverse in terms of women in tech teams and leadership."

"A good federal agency to work with standard fed benefits. Offers flexibility and there are a number of females in executive positions. Growth could be limited, especially for experienced professionals who are at top of their grades and pay scales."

"I worked here full time for over 3 years. Initially it was great but later when I got pregnant things were very difficult. I had serious nausea and had to be on bed rest but my manager would keep calling me even when I was using my vacation. I had to work on my PTO. I requested to get unpaid leave after my maternity as I wanted to stay with my baby but I was refused and its ok to refuse but they told me that if you have the money take it otherwise you have to work. Do you have the money?. I don't think it was their business to worry about my finances. Also when I got back from my maternity my senior manager asked me how my long vacation was and it must be really nice to enjoy a long break. If you have ever cared for a new born, you know maternity is not a break, especially if you has a c-section."

"Make sure you do everything you can to ensure pay equality"
Anonymous shared this review of Capital One on Aug 13th, 2018
"While this is a great place for mothers to work, its an aggressive culture. You are expected to perform well above the duties of your role. Twice a year, you are calibrated against your peers to determine bonus, raise etc. Personally, I think this is unfair, as every team functions differently and every person has different responsibilities. For example, as an admin, you may not be able to work on an "outside the box" project if you're in the middle of planning multiple events. On the plus side, most managers respect that you have a life outside of work and are flexible if you need to WFH to care for an ill child. Excellent benefits. "

"Capital One has great work/life balance with competitive time off, work from home options and plenty of flexibility. The benefits and compensation are also highly competitive. Although there is a relatively diverse workforce here, there's definitely a lack of women and minorities in leadership positions. "

"Capital One as a whole is an incredibly challenging and technically innovative place to work. The work is fascinating and never boring. Capital One is a great place to work in terms of having gender and racial diversity on the surface as well as company wide policies that benefit women, but continues to have a bro culture and issues with favoritism towards white heterosexual men especially when it comes to promotions and assignments."

"Capital One has a respectful atmosphere and inclusive culture. They are working hard to attract women in tech and there are excellent family friendly benefits that men also take advantage of. "
"Do it! Capital One is so good to me, I encouraged my husband to join."
"Capital One provides an extremely inclusive environment where, literally, every voice is heard. "
"Capital One works hard to ensure the environment is open and all opinions matter."
"Save yourself. Don’t do it. The company culture has gone downhill in last 2+ years. Executive Leadership is aware of employee dissatisfaction, but it’s all talk - no action. Benefits are pretty good — vacation, medical, tuition reimbursement. Not the work / life balance they claim to encourage, though. Again, just talk. It’s not supported by management. "
"I feel like I'm treated the same as men even though I work in HR, which is normally all women."
"Capital One supports women. We have many Business Resource Groups dedicated to making Capital One a great place to work for women including EmpowHER and Women in Tech."
"Generally speaking, there is a lot of flexibility. I have three children and am able to do whatever is needed to get them to appointments, work from home if they're sick, or step out to catch a school activity. There is an understanding and acceptance with my peers that we all do what we need to do to take care of our families and get the job done, and we support one another in those efforts."
"Capital One allows me to feel like I can take care of business as well as take care of my family."
"They are working to correct the underrepresentation of women in more senior roles. I can see progress being made and focus being drawn to it. "
"Overall, Capital One treats women well. Things like mansplaining happen pretty rarely here as everyone is smart and expects others to be smart. In my job family in particular, there is a serious lack of women and it's getting worse. Some individual leaders care a lot and are trying to fix, but overall, and especially from HR leaders, diversity doesn't seem to be as much as a priority as getting in the best talent."
"It's a great place for working moms - flexibility with being able to leave for appointments/activities and the ability to work from home"
"Excellent place to feel valued and bring your whole self to work."
"it's a great place to work and can be flexible"
"There is a true culture of belonging and a heavy focus on diversity and inclusion. Lots of other women work here. "
"Capital One is very flexible -- I don't feel pressure to be in the office from 9am-5pm. I have the ability to work from home when it is best for me. I really can't put a dollar value on that flexibility. "
"Very flexible work arrangements. Strong maternity leave policies. Still required to work hard. There are women's diversity resource groups and activities. "
"The focus is not only on the current moment and promoting women now but how are we setting women up for success in the future. Capital One is working to make sure the opportunities are there foundationally so that women are in the position to be promoted later in their careers. "
"There is real attention to diversity, inclusion, and empowerment. I feel that Capital One really wants their employees to be the best versions of their authentic selves and bring that to work."
"It's a great company to work for - I have been here for 17 years!"
"I think the maternity leave benefits are great, and I've also seen multiple women keep leadership positions while transitioning to working 4 days a week to care for children. "
"I can't imagine another corporation that would support me as much as Capital One does in terms of flexibility and benefits. Having two kids, husband deployed overseas and a full-time job is tough but Capital One makes it all work. If you are looking for an employer that not only says but does - look no further, honestly."
"As a mother of 3, Capital One's culture and focus on family first has allowed me to excel professionally while balancing the needs of my family!"
"Capital One genuinely values a diversity of opinions and insights and experiences. Whether you are a woman, a man, a person of color, someone with a traditional background, someone with a unique education-- everyone brings value to the table. Because of that, you are expected to bring your whole self to work-- all parts of you. New mothers can join conference calls while pumping in our Mother's Rooms, women aren't dismissed or man-splained to in meetings, and our pay and benefits are competitive. Most importantly, though, is that our overall culture is just one of acceptance of you-- because of your experience, not in spite of it. "
"I've become a foster mom this year which has taken me out of the office more than I expected. I've been able to work flexibly and manage to get my work done in my own time without the guilt of not always being in the office during core business hours. Plus I got parental leave to help with the transition. It's been nice to not have to worry about work when you are taking on such a challenging role in your personal life. "
"18 weeks maternity leave gave me the great opportunity to bond with my baby and find my new balance so that when I returned back to work, I felt ready."
"It's a great employer for working moms who need flexibility!"
"The company has started using to data to help support women's growth, identify gaps and why they exist, and help women move into leadership roles."
"I have worked with and for several powerful leaders at Capital One who are women. It's a great feeling to see them supported and promoted the same as the men working here. "
"Working here isn't just a job. You're presented with challenging work that's fulfilling, great people managers, and coworkers that are smart, thoughtful, and that I look forward to seeing everyday. Not only that, as a woman, you are fully supported with our benefits and work/life balance to have a family AND a career. It's truly something that we practice what we preach."
"This company will be respectful of all women and families. There is very little concern about promotion possibilities unless you get to the point of needing to go part-time or show greater need for an established work-life balance."
"Overall, Capital One is a great place to work. While we do lack female representation at the very top of the organization, it's something that our leaders are aware and open about. Our culture is not hierarchical - the best idea is the one that is chosen, regardless of who proposed it. Our policies are generous and well aligned (if not exceeding) the market. I would definitely recommend Capital One as a place to work to my family and friends."
"Capital One has been a great place to work as a woman. The emphasis on work-life balance is huge, our benefits support women, and I can tell our leadership is focused on diversity efforts."
"Capital One truly understands what it is to be a woman in the workforce!"
"In my 25 years of professional experience this has been the most progressive and flexible employer I've had. I've really enjoyed working at Capital One for the last 6 years. I've gone through some major life changes in that time and they've been nothing but supportive. The work is also very interesting in that they challenge you to think beyond the norm."
"There is a great work/ life balance, and plenty of opportunities to develop professionally. "
"I wish that there were more woman in the C-suite but generally being a women here is awesome. "
"Capital One prioritizes diversity and creating an inclusive environment. Various teams are farther along on this journey than others, but it is a constant discussion. I feel very valued here. "
"At Capital One I have felt not only valued as an employee but also as a vital member of our overall community. My manager has been a terrific mentor, and through her leadership, I have had the opportunity to grow my skill set and further my career. I am consistently impressed with Capital One's culture of inclusion and sincere commitment to its employees."
"Capital One supports all different types of diversities, backgrounds and perspectives. I always feel like my voice is heard and that I can make an impact here. "
"While there are not a lot of women in leadership roles, fixing this issue and the biases/culture that led to this imbalance is a top priority."
"The great benefits for maternity leave, adoption and surrogacy options. "
"The amount of work/life balance and growth and development opportunities offered to all associates is unparalleled."
"The organization recognizes the need to have more woman represented at on the Executive Committee, Board, and high leadership roles. We are trying to make moves to get there, albeit takes time. "
"Capital One has an awesome flexible culture and respects work life balance."
"Capital One has empowered me to have a fulfilling career and be a present parent. I experienced generous maternity leave with both of my children, a very comfortable mother's room for pumping when I got back, and plenty of flex time for sick kids or school plays. I also feel like my contributions are valued here and being a mom has never hindered my career growth. In fact, a few years ago I was promoted the day I returned from maternity leave! I just don't think it gets better than this as a working mom!"
"Capital One provides excellent opportunity for all that work here."
"More so than any other employer, this company values flexibility and work/life balance - things like family, your health, etc. are prioritized above work. They strive to be the best, but not at the expense of your outside life."
"On top of all of the benefits Capital One has as a company, they truly seek to develop their associates. Even if in the worst case scenario you begin to feel like the job isn't for you, they will work their butt off to get you into another role within the organization that interests you and that will help you be successful. "
"The environment at Capital One allows me to meet my family obligations, which in-turn encourages me to be a more active Associate. I can bring my whole self to work."
"Great benefits, amenities, and culture. I love the mother's rooms and well-being focused perks and offerings."
"Communicate with the hiring manager and the existing team to make sure that team is align with the "typical" Capital One culture, there are rare exceptions that are not."
"Capital One values work life balance for both men and women. I find as a woman, I am able to create my daily hours around important events such as doctor appointments, school activities, and career enhancing networking events. "
"Some pockets like HR, Marketing etc are very female heavy, others female representation is much more scarce. This feels pretty typical"
"We do need more women in leadership positions and when you have an opinion you should share it! "
"They support you at home, at work and in your personal development. Awesome place to work"
"Capital One is a truly great place to work - great Mission, culture, benefits, and people. I don't believe there is consistent equality of pay or promotion across the company, but we have leadership and a culture that is striving to change that. You can be a part of making the change, while also having a great career with a company unlike any other. "
"Be authentic, continue to dream big, seek both male and female mentors and be a mentor yourself, participate in meetings and share your opinions, don't hesitate to ask questions, provide constant actionable feedback, and truly appreciate Capital One's culture and environment as not all companies allow you to just run your own race."
"Capital One offers you the ability to achieve your career goals in a collaborative and fair environment. "
"Today is my 19 year anniversary with Capital One. I have seen it grow more and more every year. I am thankful for my benefits and the flexibility to work from home when needed. Capital one has amazing leave options for working mothers and a wonderful new and improved adoption assistance and support group. I am very proud to work for Capital One! "
"There's no better place to work if you're looking for a support professionally and personally. As a mother, you're empowered to bring your whole-self to work. There's no hiding who you are or what's important to you - both inside and outside of office walls."
"Lots of opportunity for growth for creative, capable women at Capital One. "
"Capital One is a high-energy and exciting place to work, and an employer that values diversity and inclusion."
"Capital One is an amazing place to work due to people, the flexibility and the development you receive. I have never had to worry about being judged for taking time off or working from home. "
"If you take care of yourself and your family first, you can then take care of the job, but if you and family are in need, no way can your job go well. You first, job next."
"There are a wealth of resources and great people to work with."
"Capital One stands behind working parents. I am able to be the present mom I am today after working for an employer that allows me the flexibility to attend school events, volunteer in my daughters classroom, etc. I could never say that until I joined Capital One 3 years ago.I am proud to say that I work for a company that focuses 100% on diversity and inclusion. "
"Great official policies and corporate culture. I work in the Finance department and my team is made up of all women!"
"I would say this is a great place to work. I left my job 3 years ago to join Capital One and I have not regretted my decision one bit. "
"Most managers are great on the work-life balance; some still need coaching"
"The environment is super supportive and respects personal life needs."
"Capital One has amazing benefits and opportunities. I feel incredibly valued, appreciated and inspired to come to work every day. I am lucky to be surrounded by intelligent and caring individuals who develop me personally and professionally."

"I love, and am most thankful for, the freedom and flexibility to balance work and life, as well as to take ownership of your career. My leadership is incredibly passionate about making sure each of our associates are doing work that is truly fulfilling and inspiring. Never have I felt limited by hierarchy, role, team, etc. My opinion feels valued and I have many ways to voice it. I love that I can take an idea and run with it, without needing layers upon layers of approval. The pay and benefits are fantastic. "

"Capital One is making significant progress in diversity, including a jump in the number of females executives recruited and promoted over the past couple of years. There is still work to do at the top levels of the organization, though. But overall as financial services companies go, it is working to be forward leaning and there is a vibrant, lively women's network that does a lot to support women throughout the company."

"Great benefits for maternity leave. Recently went from 12 to 18 for moms and 2 to 8 for dads. It would be wonderful to have more working moms in senior leadership positions."
"Capital One is the best job I've ever had. It's incredibly rewarding to work at a place that cares about its Mission, has bold aspirations, is full of smart and talented people -- and, that also enables a great work/life balance (our founder and CEO has eight kids!). "
"I think a big step forward would be to see more women in leadership roles who are balancing family and career. There are increasing number of female leaders, but they tend to be childless or have a stay-at-home spouse - so they're essentially thriving in a male-established culture rather than changing it. Culture is changing though, so if women are willing to push for their needs while still delivering value, management is generally willing to meet them. I'm in middle management and personally have a high degree of flexibility - I can't imagine I could find this combination of flexibility and compensation elsewhere."

"The corporate policies are great but the culture In the commercial bank doesn't respect them. Do a lot of research on the team you are considering because the culture varies widely. "
"Senior leadership are mostly men."
"Work-life flexibility is encouraged, you have the ability to design you work life around your home life as needed in most areas. It is a bit of a political environment and easy to see how some get out of balance when trying to get promoted. Overall, it is a great place to work that is supportive of associates."
"The women that have advanced are "yes" men and can't share an open and honest opinion or call BS on certain initiatives."
"The company strives to be equal but in a work place that is predominantly women you still see 2/3 of the management is men. They've really stepped up their maternity benefits from a mere 8 weeks to 12 all paid. I hope to continue to see more but think that in the present marketplace this is great."
"Good option to consider"
"Generally, I believe that women are treated fairly. The work life balance is really good and you can choose a schedule that works for you."
"In my experience, women are treated fairly at this company. I think there is more of a bias around age than gender. Youth rather than experience seems to be more valued. Individuals at the executive level come and go along with the latest and greatest hot initiative."
"I've worked here for 3 years, and there are a number of women at the company. However, most teams I've worked on only have males in higher level positions. I know Finance is a typically more male dominated industry, but it still makes it more challenging for me to network and relate to the higher level people. However, the company really does seem to try and treat everyone as fairly as possible."
"Many women in high positions... all are approachable, professional, amazing women making a huge impact in their respective areas of influence."
"Your experience will depend on your role and manager, but there's space to be flexible when needed."
"Women are passed over and over for promotions. While they attempt to improve things with a Women's Network, it hasn't changed, and in fact, with the last promo cycle actually seems like it has gone down. Male dominated department. No significant female leadership."
"Cap one is trying to think about gender equality but there are few strong high leveled female leaders."
"I've worked at this company for over a year. Lots of opportunities for women, and an effort to support and drive women in technology. Limited number of women is more representative of the industry itself, rather than the company. Fairly flexible work environment, and a culture that is hard-working but family oriented."
