"Dow recently updated their parental leave policy to 16 weeks. When I had my recent son, I felt like I had time off to spend with him and my work group is flexible to allow me to take time off when needed to care for him. Flexibility is super important to me and Dow provides that!"

"Even though I have experienced less sexism here than at my last company, the sexists here are loud and proud and they can affect your career even if they are making up their opinion. Even though I have a PhD and 8 years of work experience, I will never be able to break through the Technology development Frat in my group. They demean me, talk down to me, and there is no getting around it. These assholes get promoted. You need to figure out how to work at other types of projects to get recognition. You have to find you a bunch of old male allies and tell them what you do and how you do it EVERY WEEK and those are the men you need to get reviews from. Also get reviews from any women you can - this gets harder as you ascend because there aren't many in leadership positions. The other women are used to this BS. "

"The company is run by people who either do not have children, have the financial means to pay for a nanny, or are married to a stay at home parent. Even though many employees are pushing for better benefits and policies for remote work and caregiver benefits, the company leadership is reluctant to put those in place and make a change. While Dow has done what's right to keep non-operations employees home during the pandemic, they have maintained their Midland, Michigan centric location requirements. No remote work location flexibility = loss of talent."

"Women and men appear to be treated equally for most roles at the company, but in production roles there is the expectation that you put the plant first no matter what. If you plan to spend the first 5-10 years of your career in production, like many do, then you will be limited by your facility in how much time and energy you have for personal activities. At some facilities, that's no limitation at all. At others, it is a huge time and energy suck."

"Making strides towards promoting more women into leadership roles, but still has a way to go. Need to hire more women (experienced and college grads) into the pipeline so that there would be more women to promote into leadership roles. Leave policies are great regarding family-related leaves (maternity, family illness, etc). Flexibility (i.e. telework, flex days/hours) is allowed in certain functions/businesses/sites. Remote opportunities are very limited and rare."

"If you are in operations you will run into quite a few men who will belittle you in some way. A lot of them are older and see nothing wrong with calling you little pet names or not believing what you say. However a lot of other people take you seriously. A very mixed bag. Also probably has something to do with being in the south. Management can have the same attitude though which can get discouraging."

"I've worked here for over 1 year. They claim that there are many women in leadership, but most are in middle-management and I've heard a lot of talk about them behind their back from their direct reports, other women leaders, other men leaders, etc. It's quite discouraging. You have to be a little crass and be "one of the boys" to fit in, especially in some departments. It's very obvious that you are treated differently.
It takes a while to earn the respect of the operators and of other engineers when you are a new graduate and a young women here. Some still do not ask me for technical advice even though I own the process and have made good engineering recommendations, etc. They ask the other male engineers in the department, who then defer to me."
