Great place for aspiring Women employees. Diversity is a key focus in IBM India and we have equal opportunities for growth and success into critical roles. There are a number of Senior women leaders in the organization who inspire and promote diversity strategy in the organization.

Networking is key to success. If you are shy about reaching out to others, you have to force yourself to take steps to network.

The nature of consulting is that we travel Monday to Thursday every week and our flexibility is somewhat defined by the client's flexibility. That being said, I do have the ability to work from home when not at a client site and to adjust for personal commitments.

IBM can be a great place for women if you are hired in "IBM Regular" status.

My boss is great about allowing me time off for doctor appointment or events at my daughter's school. I would say the amount of flexibility depends on the manager.

  • Took Maternity Leave Here? (Weeks)

I am not eligible for IBM's generous maternity leave policy because of a technicality with my employment status.

  • One Thing Employer Could Improve

Improve my benefits (e.g. medical, maternity)

  • Recommend to Women?

Maybe. IBM has great benefits for employees hired into an "IBM Regular" status. I was hired into a "Long Term Supplemental" status which means I don't have access to paid maternity leave, adoption assistance, a 3rd week of vacation, raises or 401k matching. You can be in this status for up to 3 years. Despite being told when I was hired that I would be converted in 6 months, I have not been converted 18 months later. We would like to have another baby, but I will have no paid leave.

I feel I am fully respected as an equal working as a woman at IBM. I have had both male and female managers and have always been respected.

IBM is a great place to work at because of the people. The people at IBM really care about one another and it is really easy to build community.

Divisions and sub-groups within IBM are different in its attitude towards supporting women, even though policies (generous maternity and paternity leave) are company-wide. Do you research on the sub-culture before you commit.

IBM is a good company to work for but a few of their programs are lacking funding so make sure to negotiate your salary well as health benefits are expensive and salary programs are poorly funded. You will get plenty of opportunities to work on cool things with great people giving you new skills and opportunities that most companies can't offer.

There is a lot of room for growth at IBM but your career is what you make of it. You can be very successful if you seek out sponsors and mentors and find your niche within the larger organization.

IBM is a very large company and the amount of flexibility afforded depends a lot on your team and role. In consulting, it is very difficult to have a flexible schedule given the amount of travel required.
