"There are women in leadership roles at the very top of the company and in my department we are 90% female, but everything in between is mostly male and mostly focused on competition rather than collaboration."

"There are flexible policies and the hours can be flexed. However the culture is very intense and competitive which takes away from the benefits of the policies."

"My maternity leave was part of the previous company before IBM acquisition. According to IBM's policy it is now 18 weeks paid if normal delivery, up to 20 weeks for C-section."
Would you recommend IBM to other women?
"I am an IBMer through acquisition and while there are a few key women in leadership, most upper management are old white haired males. The company momentum and initiative seems sporadically spaced and hard to tap into. The company IBM acquired was more focused on work-life balance and had a better team feel. Joining IBM has diminished that culture. While there are flex-time policies in place, the culture is very much focused on working more than your peers to earn more recognition. There is also very little stability or continuity in transitions. There have been several layoffs and no clear communication on transition of responsibilities. There is a nice maternity leave/parental leave program and I have had coworkers take personal leaves of absence which was more accommodating than the previous business structure."

"Within finance, they recognize that there is a gap with women in the workplace, and they are actively promoting women. You do see more females in higher up positions; the opportunities are there if you are willing to take them. "

"Although there are a lot of men (mostly men) on my team (technical position) the men respect the women and the women help and support each other. The men help too. "
