"I can't imagine working for another tech company where males openly question the value of diversity or suggest that perhaps there is a biological reason women stay out of tech. Given the outsized influence of tech in our society, it's so important we are attracting more women into their industry to help shape the design and experience of products. It's so different at IBM - where we regularly look for things like unconscious bias that could be holding women back. Unless you look for it (and remediate it), bias will always be present."

"It's one thing for a company to have a commitment to flexibility in a handbook. It's another for them to have it in practice. Like when we give 20 weeks for maternity leave and give moms the choice of how they want to take it, e.g. one big chunk of time or split across a year --we mean it. People aren't fearful of taking their mat leave or their paternity leave. No one is penalized. I'm thrilled to have worked part-time for 13 years to raise my kids and was promoted and given great work opportunities along the way. And we have programs now to bring back women who opted out of the workforce for extended periods - we call them returnships. How cool is that. "
