Program Manager

January 1970

It was a great place to work with a young child - good benefits, flexibility, onsite childcare, etc. But there are limited opportunities for growth, either in level of responsibility or compensation.

  • Took Maternity Leave Here? (Weeks)

There was no actual maternity leave, but I was paid for most of my leave through short term disability (paid the premium myself), saved vacation and saved sick time. Since I was on leave they implemented a sick bank leave that would help parents take more time off while being paid, but that relies on sick leave donations from other colleagues.

Be careful about how much you commit, and don't stay if there isn't encouragement for promotion or to learn a new skill.

My department is extremely flexible. Others on campus, not so much.

  • Took Maternity Leave Here? (Weeks)

Maternity leave seems to be the standard. Depending on supervisor, employees have worked out other arrangements.

  • One Thing Employer Could Improve

Give staff more opportunities in other areas. Promote a culture of "it can be done" rather than "it can't be done"

  • Recommend to Women?

Maybe. Depends on the department and the supervisor.
