"There is endless opportunities to grow and learn. Everyone I have worked with across the company is eager to help anyone who wants to learn. There are opportunities to move up and laterally if you find you are interested in a different role. The company also publicly promotes inclusivity and diversity. Internally I think it depends on what organization and team you work on. Some are amazing at it, others are stuck in old ways of doing things. There was flexibility until they started pushing back to office 3+ days a week for people in leadership roles without having a strong reasoning for why. Thomson Reuters has also laid off a lot of people recently and with budget cuts there's less money for promotions which means less opportunity to move up. I am very happy with the team I currently work with and my boss. He does a lot to bring women and underrepresented people up into leadership roles and provides a lot of opportunities to make big impacts across the company. I greatly appreciate him and the team. "

"This is a company where being a woman is not usually an advantage or disadvantage, in an industry that tends to attract women at the lowest levels. There are numerous women managers, VPs, directors, etc. and the current head of HR, well she has been amazing in bringing women in this company into this century. If you like flexible WFH arrangements and generous family benefits, this is a great place to work."

"It all depends on the group. My previous group was a true old boys club. Rampant mansplaining and condescension towards (the few) female employees. But the next group I joined was great in terms of women's equality, and I have been grateful to be able to do my job without all the bullshit. So my only advice is to learn as much as you can about the group dynamics."

"Leadership and executive teams do pay a lot of attention to what employees say and the areas for improvement. They have been heavily investing in improving our culture of diversity and inclusion across the organisation. Personally, I have felt extremely supported throughout the years in developing my skills, advancing my career and creating a fantastic network. Most recently, as a new mom, I have really enjoyed the flexibility to manage things at home but also to enjoy family time. This has been even more important through this COVID-19 crisis."

"I've always found Thomson Reuters incredibly supportive. I have very flexible work arrangements that allow me to effectively work, take care of my family and have a life of my own. I have also found them supportive of my career development - I see quite a lot of women in leadership roles, and have been supported immensely with training, role models and encouragement on my own management career path. My only concern is that pay decisions aren't transparent, and I have seen people with similar levels of experience employed into the same role on different salaries. Salary reviews don't really involve the individual employee being reviewed and there is no room for negotiation except when applying for a new role. I don't think I've been good at negotiating salary, and I have only sometimes felt that my manager was negotiating on my behalf. "

"Thomson Reuters has a systemic policy of laying off employees approximately every two years, typically in Q4, in order to keep the books in black. Employees will then be hired back at a lower rate. It is demoralizing. There is also a cap on salary, and a lack of diversity overall. Hours ranged from good to unreasonable, depending on my manager - which changed frequently."

"Where an official policy exists, the company is rigorous about equality, be that gender equality, LGBT inclusion or race. However, many decisions for lower levels of staff are taken unofficially and there are then no checks on the biases of individual decision makers. Pay gap is small; there are plenty of women in C-level posts."

"TR is a great place to work - nice benefits, great people, strong product portfolio, satisfying work - however the opportunity for real (upward) growth is missing. There is a lot of encouragement to take on a "gig" to learn about and support another team but that is designed to help with lateral job changes, not upward growth."

I have enjoyed the people I've worked with over the years and have always felt supported by my teammates and my superiors. "Women are truly championed at Thomson Reuters. We are supported by each other, by our teams and by our leadership to develop ourselves personally and professionally. We have business resource groups (BRGs) like Women@TR where I participate in the events to network, learn, and gain mentorship from other women here. We also have SO many resources available for diversity and inclusion which gives an intersectional lens to understand one another and a safe space to be included no matter your race, gender, sexual orientation, etc. You're truly championed here in our culture of inclusivity! "Thomson Reuters does a great job of promotion women, especially internally. It's not surprising to see women in many leadership roles. The benefits are outstanding even for women who have delayed starting a family with resources to help in that area! We have amazing maternity and paternity leave as well. There is also flexibility to work from home in most roles even in a non-Covid environment. There are lots of business resource groups and women networking groups to help support and elevate."

"It's a great organization as people are polite and most are willing to share their knowledge. There are definitely pockets of the organization that play politics to the max. Most managers allow you to set your "in office / work" hours with the expectation you will get your work done and not be micromanaged in that regard. Definitely open to remote work when necessary."

"Thomson Reuters is a unique business, in that they have aquired several businesses over the years, making it exceptionally more difficult to create a desired culture in a highly matrixed and global organization. However, the idea the leaders are making moves, while also growing themselves, says a lot about the people and the type of company they are [and who they want to be]"

"Thomson Reuters places a lot of trust in its employees. I feel that my manager respects my intelligence and my input. I am never disregarded, talked over, or controlled. I have a lot of agency. I have a lot of freedom. I feel strongly committed to my team. I believe that I make a difference. As a result, I want to help the company be even more successful than it already is. I have never felt personally invested in the success of my employer before, but the way that TR treats me (and I happen to be a woman), gives me this sense of dedication, which is very fulfilling. I also appreciate that the senior women in the company do NOT have that demoralizing 'chip-on-my-shoulder' embittered quality that I have encountered from so many higher-level women during my career as a young professional. (They had it hard it must be hard for me.) Instead I feel inspired and mentored. A+ all the way."

There are certainly dinosaurs that have held on to outdated views and certain departments that do not display the culture as well as others, but our leaders push the message. "Overall this company tries hard to create an equal environment for women, It is great at offering great maternity leave, back-up childcare polivies etc. But success varies dramatically across sectors of the business. Editorial in particular, has male-dominated management culture that makes it difficult to progress for many women"

First one I was able to take 12 weeks paid and 12 more weeks unpaid which was wonderful, Second kid I got 12 weeks paid but any unpaid was only available after all PTO time was used up which was not feasible for me having a kid early in the year, very disappointing. I think it has changed again though "

"There are a lot of strong, intelligent women working within Thomson Reuters at all levels and across all geographies; however, at the highest levels (Board, ExCom) it is still dominantly white-male. More to be done, but the company invests in the development of female leaders and has made conscious strides to address gender equality through practices and policies. "

"TR has made it a priority to promote women in Technology from the upper echelons of leadership. They've also implemented balanced and generous parental leave for women AND MEN which I think is just amazing. I'm also super proud to work for the company that includes Reuters news agency - one of the best, least biased and most respected news agencies in the world. Also - working in Technology - i feel that they respect and promote women more than many other organizations and I feel that I'm setup for success here. LOVE IT AT TR! #working@TR"

I have been very fortunate to be a part of this organization that has allowed me to solve for problems outside of my role, which has lead me to additional roles. Now they have a parental leave policy that includes men being able to take the same amount of time as women (12 weeks), and either can take it within the first year of the child either being born or coming to live with them (foster or adopt). Amazing! "

"I work with talented leaders that don't see me as just another employee. They care, they seek to hear my voice, and they want to know more about me as a person. Our parental leave policy is best-in-class and truly helps families focus on important time with their new child. Our vacation/holiday program is generous and allows us to get away from the office to refresh & relax. "

I would definitely recommend working at Thomson Reuters. "

I have had great bosses and peers who have always been very supportive of what I do and also goaded me to go beyond my comfort zone. The focus on diversity and inclusion for the organization is not just tick in a box it goes beyond."

"The location of the Bangalore Office specifically is an issue. The commute is cumbersome and I think the management should plan for more satellite offices for folks to connect from to avoid time wasted and frustration built around commute to work. No all work can be done from home so coming to work is very important as well. I think that will also let employees consider staying back more. "

"I have never felt less valued as a woman at TR. We have many women in higher level positions and it's quite encouraging to see women continue to gain new opportunities. We also have a women's resource group that puts events together specifically for women at TR and they do great work to bring our company together. "

"As a foster parent, I have to make quick decisions on if I should bring a child into my home and TR makes the decision much easier. Our most recent placement was a newborn baby and TR's parental leave policy allows for a full 12 weeks off for not only birth, but foster care and adoption. And it was on a moment's notice! I had told my manager it could be in the next few weeks and it was literally the next DAY! This made the stress of being home with a newborn much easier! I was extremely excited to know that I can take this time. "

"TR recently expanded leave to include both parents, a full 12 weeks, and you can split it into two different times off. If your partner works at TR, they can also take 12 weeks off to be with the new child. As I also mentioned, this is not just for birth, but TR also offers this for foster children AND adoption. While I can't take it again for another 12 months, I expect I will use it again, because we will continue to bring foster children in to provide a loving and safe place. And TR helps to make that happen! "

"The parental leave policy is amazing and frankly, the available benefits are unheard of with other employers. TR recently expanded their parental leave policy. It now offers up to a total of 24 months off, up to 18 paid (12 paid + 6 temporary disability). The 12 week paid parental leave is gender neutral. They also offer great medical benefits, including fertility coverage (as of 2017, up to $10k). They also offer adoption assistance (as of 2017, up to $5k). In addition to these fantastic benefits, the CEO has made a public commitment to increase the number of women in high-level leadership positions to 40% by 2020 (and offers quarterly updates on the progress of this goal)."

I've heard horror stories about other companies and the way they are with mothers (and fathers) in regards to having the ability to flex for the children's sake. From the departments I have worked within Thomson Reuters, this company has been amazing. "

"The company does great things and really promotes diversity in the workplace. But most of the middle management is your typical mid-40s white man, and it can be hard to have your voice heard if you don't cater to his opinions and idea of what a "successful" person is and how a "successful" person acts. "Thomson Reuters is a huge organization with a history of growing through acquisitions. My personal experience has been of an organization that values diversity and makes an effort to recruit and retain women, especially minority women. There are people in my department who have lived on every continent except Antarctica (and maybe Austrilia). Flexibility and work-life balance here are good, benefits are decent though not as good as they used to be (I've been here more than 10 years), but salary here is not up to par. I enjoy the challenges of the work that I do, and the people I work with, but looking at where my salary falls on Glassdoor and similar sites, compared to others with my experience, is depressing. The annual review and performance increase process implicitly penalizes those who started with a lower salary, since it's percentage based."

"I had a miscarriage, and missed over a week of work in the aftermath. I asked to my (male) manager if I could take that time as paid bereavement leave for the loss of a child. He spoke to someone in HR, and the leave was approved. Note that this is a very specific situation, and a different manager or HR rep might have given a different answer; it's certainly not something that's covered in their searchable policies (for several very understandable reasons)."

"TR is heading in the right direction. Flexible hours, generous time off, and working remotely (as needed) are the norm. At the ground-level, things are quite egalitarian. However, it's a different picture at the highest levels of management. Leadership is overwhelmingly male, white, and middle-aged. Initiatives around inclusion and diversity are mentioned, but often in a tone-deaf, self-congratulatory manner. "

"This company does value family and family time. Obviously attitudes will vary depending on what department and which business you are in, but I have moved between locations and job functions and have found this to be true. Even before having children, when my father-in-law fell into a coma, there was no question about taking time off to be with family. And the same story when my aunt died of cancer. After having each of my children, my direct supervisor allowed me to take several weeks working a shortened schedule even after my maternity leave. All of this flexibility came after I had been working there for a while and proved myself. They value hard work and will reward it, accordingly, as far as I have experienced."

Women are also provided with a lot of leadership opportunities and in the location where I work, women leaders are equal in number to men and the population is predominantly female than male."

"Excellent work/life, flex schedules, not expected to work off hours in general. Great maternity leave, larger locations also have great nursing facilities. I think women are well represented in leadership. A female leads our (very large) BU. It does seem like women without kids are more likely to advance, though. Can sometimes seem like people don't drive for results or are a little lazy. Not great at career development or promotions."

"You probably won't get paid as much as your male counterparts for doing the same work. The men at the top are overtly sexist and misogynistic and they only like the women that play along. Once, I and 3 other women walked into a conference room for a meeting with a male VP and he remarked "my harem is here." I can think of two other male VPs who made sexist comments in front of lower-ranking women because they know there are no repercussions."

"Gender equality varies between businesses and work groups. Women are promoted up to a point, and then not so much, which has resulted in reduced bench strength when it comes to promoting women past the lower level team lead roles. This is not true of all groups, but many."

My position allows me to flex and work from home. However, in my small division, men have been promoted over more qualified women and that is infuriating. If you want to get ahead, be a tall man who speaks confidently. There is an active women's network on the intranet which is great."
