There is a program, called Women's Leadership Initiative (WLI) that focuses on helping all women build successful careers at the firm. Many of the initiatives they support have enhanced the working environment for all people, regardless of gender. The program is structured around 3 primary pillars - professional growth, inclusive work environment and individual choices to accommodate changing career and life priorities. "Flex hours are absolutely supported. It is a commonly known thing at ZS that they would rather have valuable employees work part time or flex hours than not have them work at all. I know a lot of new mothers are able to cut down on their working hours to take care of their families."

"The hours are flexible, but we are expected to work about 47.5 hours a week on client work, not including any proposal writing, learning and development, or office activities. This type of aggressive staffing is very difficult to manage as a parent & a woman. I am fortunate to work for a team that lets me work very odd hours to achieve this and have limited out of driving distance, but this is very challenging for me to handle as a single parent"

"This firm works very hard to keep its culture and ensure its people feel valued. Their flexibility is amazing as I have been told many times that they would rather have some of me than none of me. Additionally, they really help to put family first. When I had to go off work suddenly 10 weeks ahead of my maternity leave due date, there were never any questions asked. They picked up everything I had going on, and made sure I was able to focus on doing what I needed to do for my future baby (who arrived safely just after her due date). Great company!"

"ZS has good flexibility and generally a better travel schedule than other consulting firms. The workload is definitely significant, but that is to be expected in this industry. "Honestly, I couldn't imagine a better company to work for. The benefits are generous (and equal for women), the culture is extremely genuine, collaborative and respectful - I can count on my colleagues to help out when I'm in need with projects or with personal situations, and to really be a sounding board as I navigate my career. The professional development opportunity is huge - I have a few mentors, men and women, who proactively give me advice to try and help me to succeed and advance in my career. "The flexibility of working here makes having a career and a family fairly sustainable. "I am not someone who believes in work vs. life... we have one life. My children and family, my work, my passions... all are a part of that life, and we need to find our own sense of balance. It changes over time, and what you need is a company and a support system that helps you adapt and achieve the balance that is right for you. We work hard, for sure. But today I am a partner running a large practice with amazing responsibility, a large team, and a lot to do. I have a 13-year old stepdaughter, a 14-month old daughter, and hopefully one more to come into our family whom I spend quality time with. I sit on the board of a charity and my MBA alumni association. I have date nights with my husband, and see my family and friends. My point is, balance and work/life is what we make it and what we are comfortable with across these various aspects of our lives. And while it is hard work and high expectations to work in consulting, ZS is an environment I have always found to be supportive along the way. ZS values who you are as you and what you bring. ZS is also a values-driven and high-ethics culture. I am proud to be a partner here. I worked in 6 companies before this, and never imagined I would stay anywhere for 13 years. Now I can't imagine being anywhere else! "

"Life happens. Consulting is an intense career, but in my 13 years at ZS, life has thrown me some real curve balls - some very positive, and some exceedingly difficult. "Of course in the world of consulting, client demands play a big part in driving your daily schedule and workload. Ebbs and flows are expected. "I have had a long career with ZS and I have never once felt treated differently from my male colleagues. Your career at ZS is really what you want to make of it. If you "lean in" the opportunities are unbounded.
