How to Jumpstart Your AI Career — From Experienced Tech Leaders

Carter joined Thomson Reuters on 20th September 2021, as Vice President of Data and Model (AI/ML) Governance and Ethics. In this role she is responsible for the strategy, development and execution of the enterprise-wide governance and ethics programs to ensure that our data and model (AI/ML) assets have the appropriate governance and ethics requirements in place, as well as managed to ensure alignment to TR’s Data and Analytics strategy. She currently sits on the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) Advisory Board of Canada. Prior to joining Thomson Reuters, Carter was the Managing Director for the Centre for Advancing Responsible and Ethical Artificial Intelligence (CARE-AI) at the University of Guelph. She is known for her relationship management expertise and is a public speaker in the areas of innovation, leadership, and strategic development for technologies. Carter has worked with a number of international technology start-ups, as well as provided managerial experience for not for profits, SMEs, and Fortune500 companies in enterprise markets. She is completing her Doctorate in Computational Sciences (PhD) from the University of Guelph and holds a Masters from the Booth School of Engineering and Technology Practice from McMaster University. She is based in Toronto, Canada.

Anu has over 23 years of technology experience and has been with Thomson Reuters since 2017 and is currently Head of Engineering /CTO of Content Technology. Prior to joining Thomson Reuters, Anu led technology delivery & architecture strategy for Royal Bank of Canada for 5 years, delivering innovative solutions for Digital Banking & Payments using Mobile technologies, Blockchain and, AI-based predictive financial insights and chatbots. Before RBC, Anu led Manulife Financial/US Retirement Plan Services engineering and delivery. Prior to that, she was an IBMer for 9 yrs and delivered many complex and exciting technology initiatives for big retail customers such as Macy’s, Target and more.

Anu is a graduate of Computer Science & Engineering from India and is passionate about developing technology solutions that help businesses & customers. She is an active speaker in the technology community on various topics, including Diversity & Inclusion, Block Chain, AI, and continues to be an advocate for women in technology. Outside work, Anu is a busy mom who lives in Toronto, Canada, with her husband and two energetic boys. “Try to thrive, not just survive” is her motto during those challenging moments of motherhood.
