Event details

The mortgage industry is often seen as one that requires a finance degree or years of prior experience. In reality, many of the skills that make someone effective in this field come from retail, customer service, and other client-facing backgrounds.

In this session, Jess Podlofsky, Director of Sales Enablement at Zillow Home Loans, will talk through what it looks like to build a mortgage career from a non-traditional starting point. She'll cover what transferable skills matter most, how the licensing process works when an employer supports you through it, and what a realistic career path in mortgage origination looks like from day one.

This is a practical, honest conversation for people curious about the mortgage industry but unsure if they qualify. If you have experience in sales, customer service, or a client-facing role and have been wondering whether mortgage is a realistic next move, this session is for you.

Topics we'll cover:

  1. What mortgage employers look for beyond a finance background

  2. How the SAFE licensing process works and what employer support looks like

  3. What a mortgage support role involves day to day and where it leads

  4. How to assess whether this career move fits your goals
