Beatriz Pacheco is an Organism Engineer at Ginkgo, leading and executing metabolic engineering projects for clients of different industrial sectors. Bea got her Bachelor of Engineering in Food Engineering from the State University of Campinas (Brazil), with a focus on Biotechnology and Bioengineering. Later, Bea obtained an MSc in Chemical Engineering at the University of Alberta, Canada, where she sequenced and evaluated bacteriophages for food safety applications.

Birgitte Simen

VP of Biosecurity Technological Platforms, Ginkgo Bioworks

Dr. Simen is the Vice President of Biosecurity Technological Platforms at Ginkgo Bioworks, where she oversees a team of scientists and engineers in the development and implementation of novel technologies for sequencing-based biological threat detection and analysis. Before this, she was Ginkgo’s Head of Next Generation Sequencing, and later the Senior Director of Genomics and Computational Biology. Prior to joining Ginkgo, Dr. Simen held a Vice President of Product Development role at Veritas Genetics, where she was in charge of R&D, bioinformatics, and Clinical Laboratory Operations on a tactical and strategic level. Dr. Simen is a member of the Coronavirus Standards Working Group's Steering Committee and a contributor to the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) Document Development Committee on Nucleic Acid Sequencing. She has a Ph.D in Cell Physiology from the University of Chicago and her postdoctoral study from Yale University School of Medicine.

Ena Chan Cratsenburg is the Chief Business Officer at Ginkgo Bioworks since 2016 where she is responsible for establishing collaborations with companies where Ginkgo’s high-throughput automated cell engineering platform can be used to develop innovative bio-based products. Ginkgo works with partners across many different markets, including pharmaceuticals, agriculture, industrial biotech, fine and specialty chemicals, and consumer products. Prior to joining Ginkgo, Ms. Cratsenburg held executive and senior management positions at various synthetic biology companies - Intrexon, Evolva, and Amyris, where she led commercialization strategies and established key partnerships across diverse sectors and markets. Prior to her career in synthetic biology, Ms. Cratsenburg held various business development and management roles at Pixar Animation Studios and BP p.l.c. Ms. Cratsenburg has an M.B.A. from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management of Northwestern University, and a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Emily Greenhagen

Transformation Lead, Ginkgo Bioworks

Emily Greenhagen has 18 years of experience serving the bioeconomy, leading development and successful commercialization across a range of organisms and applications. Emily is the Transformation Lead at Ginkgo for an internal company-wide initiative focused on scaling Ginkgo’s operations. Immediately prior, Emily served as Ginkgo’s Head of Deployment for five years, during which Ginkgo progressed eight products to commercial manufacturing. Prior to her work at Ginkgo, Emily contributed to strain engineering and fermentation process development across a range of products and organisms at Microbia (now DSM), and biofuels companies Qteros and Novogy. She holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from MIT, and helps to inform how we can best train the bioeconomy workforce of the future by serving on the external advisory board for Penn State’s Center of Excellence in Industrial Biotechnology, and engaging in initiatives such as the World Economic Forum’s Accelerating the Biomanufacturing Revolution initiative.
