What are limiting beliefs?
A limiting belief, as the name implies, is a belief that limits you in any way - a thought that tells you that you can't or shouldn't do something and therefore prevents you from taking action.
Here are some common limiting beliefs I've heard, so we can become aware and begin to work through them
1. "I can't make money in a creative industry" - what if you could make money in a creative field - what would be possible for you? how CAN you make money as an artist? what guidance can you seek?
2. "It needs to be perfect" - oftentimes, when we get stuck in this belief, it can lead to procrastination. why bother if something is not going to turn out perfectly? but what if rather than "needing to be perfect", our work GETS to be a process and we GET to continuously improve?
3. "I have to struggle to be successful" - what actions do we take from this frame of mind? it can look like forcing ourselves to do things because we feel we have to, feeling like our results aren't matching our efforts, or not making adjustments to create more ease because we feel things are just supposed to be hard. what would it feel like if success could be easy?
Let me know if any of these resonate with you. What are some limiting beliefs that have held you back?
A huge one for me is, “What if I offend someone?” This belief has held me back from trying new things. I have the desire to explore and create, but interacting with others, sometimes, causes me to empathize so much that it turns into a state of paralysis. I often talk myself out of it.
All of them resonate with me! You nailed it : )
