I just noticed I was approved for this group;-) I'm working as a certified peer specialist at a mental health homeless shelter in NYC. Oddly enough, my lived experienced with bipolar (I also live with Tourette Syndrome) is part of the requirements of my job - living with a mental illness and being a role model for others in recovery. I lost decades of opportunities b/c of my mental illness, and now my work is dependent on it , pretty ironic. Anyhow, nice to be here!
Neurodiversity is the concept that neurological variations can and should be recognized and respected rather than pathologized and in need of "curing". Neurological differences that fall under the neurodiversity umbrella include: Dyspraxia, Dyslexia, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Dyscalculia, Dysomnia, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Tourette Syndrome, and others. All our brains work a bit differently, and it's not necessarily a bad thing!
