Pandemic and School for a 5 year old
I am the mother of a rising kindergartener, and I’m currently terrified of possibly having to send her back to school. Currently praying that I will be able to work from home so that she can stay safe. I feel horrible, but she’s excited because this is her first year at a “big kid school.” The guilt and the uncertainty of how this pandemic may affect our lives.
That's an awful spot to be in, Ciara! I remember that first day of Kindergarten and how excited/terrified she was about that first day. It's such a "rite of passage". It's so hard for children to begin to understand what all the fuss is about - it barely makes sense to us as adults - so of course, she's excited, and you're probably scared. I know many families who are struggling with that same uncertainty right now - even with older children. I know teachers who are also anxious to have their classes re-open. What a difficult year to be launching your child into school! Do you have any self-care practices that help YOU to feel less anxious in the "waiting to see what might happen"phase?
