Disclosing a disability

Has anyone ever disclosed their disability to their employer? My disability is non-apparent, I often want to keep this private, as I don't want anyone to think that I can handle less than someone who is "normal". (I understand this is ableist thinking against myself and not good for the greater cause.) What are some of your experiences with this? Was it a positive or negative one?

Whenever I fill out an application asking about disabilities (which is always optional), I don't disclose the disability. My suggestion is not to disclose it unless you need to ask for an accommodation. Just make sure you have the medical history and paperwork to back it up!
