General Manager (GM), International

Overall, my experience has been positive. It is traditionally a male dominated field. In the past couple of years, there have been several efforts to increase female representation at all levels. Still a lot of work to do, but at least the conversation is happening.

Microsoft

General Manager (GM), Operations

Microsoft is really making an effort to promote female leaders. Unfortunately, in some areas, the work is not aggressive enough. In others, the promotion of women is so aggressive that there is now--and will continue to me--backlash.

Overall, the "Redmond bubble" is real. In order to really make a difference with HQ, you must be physically present.
  • Took Maternity Leave Here? (Weeks)

While I didn't take maternity leave here, I would really like to encourage all women to take the leave that they are granted. With each of my four children, I only took 4 weeks, when I really could have taken 6. There is no extra credit for those extra weeks I gave my employer. Microsoft offers 12 weeks of maternity and I find myself very jealous and really work hard to protect those weeks for my employees (male and female).

It's fun, hard work. Only downside is at my franchise we are short on managers and everyone is expected to work yourself to death. Put yourself and home life after the company needs.
