Fannie Mae is a leading source of mortgage financing in the United States, creating opportunities for people to buy, refinance and rent homes. “Our employees work to provide a stable source of financing, in both good times and bad, to ensure affordable housing is accessible to homebuyers and renters across the country,” Teresa Green, Vice President of Talent Acquisition and Programs at Fannie Mae, tells Fairygodboss.

The company is focused on developing innovative and smart solutions to promote a stronger, safer, and more efficient housing finance industry. “Constant innovation is at the core of Fannie Mae culture,” Sunila S., a software engineer, shares. “Our people are our greatest competitive advantage. We are inclusive and empower our people to make important contributions to our company and the diverse communities we serve.”

Fannie Mae doesn’t only help make housing affordable. The company also looks inward, providing opportunities for its own employees. Here are three ways Fannie Mae promotes meaningful work and purpose with its employees.

1. Offering benefits that allow employees to thrive.

Fannie Mae has a variety of benefits that support employees at every life stage. From health and wellness programs to educational and housing assistance and more, the company’s programs are designed to help our employees pursue fulfilling lives.

These benefits include paid parental leave for employees to care for a new child; lactation programs for new mothers; an adoption program that offers up to $10,000 per adoption; childcare and eldercare assistance; access to short and long-term disability; 10 days of paid family sick leave to care for ill family members; tuition assistance and a student loan repayment program.

A unique benefit includes an Employer-Assisted Housing Program, which offers a reimbursement grant to eligible employees after purchasing and closing on their primary residence. Employees also get paid time off to purchase their primary residence.

2. Creating opportunities for employees to define their own career.

The company also encourages and supports flexible and creative ways to work and learn. Employees receive on-the-job training, networking opportunities, coaching and feedback, as well as access to learning opportunities utilizing a myriad of modalities, through Fannie Mae University. Personalized online tools allow Fannie Mae team members to explore the many options for growth and career development. A continuous-learning environment empowers employees at every level to define their own careers.

“Besides having an amazing management team that I report to, the leadership is also committed to supporting personal and professional growth, ensuring that I am challenged to do my work while providing me [with] that learning experience,” Aparna K., senior manager of information security operations and technology services, tells Fairygodboss.

3. Encouraging employees to serve the community.

Serving is a part of the culture at Fannie Mae. All employees are encouraged to participate in the SERVE (Serving, Engaged, and Ready to Volunteer Employees) volunteer program. Full-time, eligible employees have the option to use 10 hours each month of paid volunteer leave, to travel to participate in disaster response work, or to join our annual, month-long and enterprise-wide SERVE effort by volunteering with a charity or nonprofit. In addition to volunteering hours, Fannie Mae has a matching gift program for employees to give to nonprofits that they deeply care about.

Whether employees are needing support through our Employee Relief Fund, giving back to the community, or helping shape the future of housing, home is an important place for Fannie Mae and its employees. Find a career at Fannie Mae by clicking the link below!
