"I have worked for the Headquarters, Department of the Army, in some capacity for 12+ years. Generally I have had a fantastic experience. Hard work and talent are rewarded. The Federal government lags behind industry in family friendly benefits and initiatives, like paid family leave and part time career positions. Interestingly, however, the Army does offer civilians the same child care subsidy for off-post care that it offers to military - this has saved us 50% off local economy rates for high quality childcare in the DC Metro area."

"Great opportunity for career advancement, you need to have thick skin though because some men will think less of you simply for being a woman. "

"Management recently implemented a Maxi-Flex Schedule. As long as you work 80 hours in a two week period and 3 days a week you work core hours (9am-3pm), the rest of your schedule can flex to the needs of the employee. Start and End times can vary, length of hours work daily can vary. It's great for when I need to go to doctors appointments or kids events. I do not have to take time off, I can just flex my schedule to make up the hours on a different day. "
