In my 18 year career I have had a variety of flexible schedules including work from home, 80% (4 days/week), 80% (5 days/week 8-3pm), and 100% with flex schedule. I've had near total support in making the arrangements that work for me. I should note that I am in a non-client facing role so this is easier to do than if I were in a client-facing role.

Deloitte is a great place but understand that to have flexibility you can pay the price with a slowdown in promotions

Beware of taking the full 16 week maternity leave unless you're a manager or above.

Find another woman mentor who can help you navigate the company, especially around flexibility and family time. Many fantastic women work here!

They are trying to make improvements, but the nature of the job is often an obstacle

  • Took Maternity Leave Here? (Weeks)

    16 paid / 8 unpaid

Now they increased the # id weeks. I believe it's 16, plus 5 weeks of short term disability. I used PTO to get to 16, between Leave and SD was about 13.

Maybe. Great opportunities for women, equal pay, excellent parental leave, great support during pregnancy/when coming back to work with young baby. Also, many women at the highest levels leadership (overall US CEO and Consulting CEO are women!!). However, the job requires long hours and frequent travel, so not for everyone.

Make no mistake this is a work hard 'up or out' culture which becomes harsher as you get more senior. Generally fairly transparent egalitarian system but I strongly suspect pregnancy/maternity leave/suspected maternity leave have affected promotion decisions and appraisal ratings so be cautious around disclosure of your plans at key times.

Recently (last couple of years) much improved flexible working policies (work from home, compressed hours, variable hours etc) with a good degree of trust to do your work without watching the hours (mostly because we all inevitably work more!). This is more the case for more senior people (senior manager and above), and in certain departments (e.g. tax).

  • Took Maternity Leave Here? (Weeks)

    39 paid / 26 unpaid

16 weeks full pay, 10 weeks half pay, then 3 months at statutory and finally 3 months unpaid. However, you receive your benefits allowance (£6700 for senior manager) and pension in full.

The benefits on paper are fantastic. It is more difficult in practice and application to take advantage.

You can gain flexibility easily from the standpoint that you can often work remotely if needed, with little explanation; however, it comes with the expectation that you should be effectively available 24/7. You can go home to have dinner with you family, but you better be back online and work until midnight after that.
