"You get very little time off. PTO is rarely approved. Unexcused absences (like needing to care for a sick child) are frowned upon. When I was pregnant I had to get a doctor's note allowing me to pee between my scheduled breaks. Micromanaging is taken to a new extreme. "

"Flexibility really depends on what area you work in. If you are in a branch with set hours, your manager may be flexible but the schedule is fairly set. In some of the organization support or tech roles the schedules are a bit more flexible.
However, if something is needed or happens and you need to change your schedule, every leader Ive encountered have been so helpful and flexible in finding a solution. "

"The hours that the branches are open really help mother that have kids with daycare pickup and drop off. It also helps with after school activities as well. Working on Saturdays give the opportunity for women to also have a day off during the week to take care of things without having to take a personal or sick day."

"I love working here because I am a single mother of 3 girls and I also care for my elderly father whom has Dementia. Navy Federal has been so accommodating when my dads health declined and we had emergencies and almost lost him a couple of times. I was very new in the company and they allowed me to take time off to be there with my dad while he was in the hospital. I honestly have never worked for a company that is so compassionate towards their employees as Navy Federal and would recommend them to anyone. "

"Navy Federal is truly an equal opportunity employer. They care about work life balance, and help working mothers by providing paid maternity leave, plus they provide pumping rooms and additional breaks upon return from maternity leave. In the career space, NFCU has more women working then men in all career levels from entry level to the highest position, our CEO. I have never felt signaled out because of my gender, and am proud to be a woman working for NFCU."

"Navy Federal is very flexible with their hybrid schedule, flex time for doctor appointments, and you get a paid personal day each year for whatever you need. This is a fantastic environment and I wouldn't want to be anywhere else. "

"It really depends on the position. I spent 10 years in our call center and there was really no flexibility and getting time off was very difficult. Then for the last two years I've been a loan officer and have bosses who are super flexible with me if I need to flex to run an errand or whenever I want time off in general. So the staffing available to the position, and nature of position, really affect the flexibility and in turn job satisfaction. In call center the job was mentally difficult so not being able to take time off when you needed it, and quickly, was a real issue and my health was awful. Since moving to loan officer and in large part because of the flexibility this position and leadership team offers my physical and mental health have changed drastically and even my overall job performance has improved. "

"My leadership is very adamant about taking the time needed to take care of home life issues, especially if you have children. Also, the entire company is led by a woman and they just upped the maternity leave from 12 paid weeks to 16 paid weeks, which is almost unheard of here in the US."

"NFCU pays fairly...more than fair...they pay amazing! I am a part time employee and enjoy all the benefits of a full time employee. I am able to provide health insurance for my family after we lost benefits through my husband's work. I am getting full use of the 401k benefits and life insurance. They have an education benefits program to help further your education. They also have a great family leave policy. Leadership is supportive and helpful. "NFCU allows you to be you. You can dress and look however you feel comfortable as they promote casual attire. They are great at understanding flexibility with schedules and having to leave for family emergencies like sick children. "This is a great company but understand that there is still systemic preferential treatment for men. There is still a lack of support for mothers. There is still a 'you should be so grateful' attitude when we dare to advocate for ourselves when it comes to remote work even if you're high performer. This place is better than a lot of jobs for sure and there's a ton of opportunity. Just be prepared that you're still going to face challenges here, which is disappointing."

"In my position, there is a ton of flexibility regarding work/life balance, and if I ever get sick. However, that's not the case for all the departments at NFCU. There are previous job positions I've worked for in the company, primarily the contact center or the mortgage department, where it seems pretty inflexible. They have stricter time-management rules. You need to ask for time off with a lot of notice and they are very known for micromanaging."

"I like NFCU for the importance it gives for diversity and inclusion along with the work life balance women require. NFCU offers various paths or trainings to empower women, mentor and coach in the areas of choice along with several trainings internal and external to pickup additional skillsets. NFCU makes you feel that you are wanted and appreciates work well done. Added to that are excellent benefits (7% 401k + (3% - 7% cash balanced pension plan based on years of service) = totally minimum 10% which is unheard, excellent health care plan with PPO offering, very good vacation and separate sick leave days and an excellent end of the year bonus called PIPs."

"It is never easy as an only parent or a single parent to work full time. The guilt we feel as mothers is VERY real. Navy Federal has given so many options to flex my schedule around my child's needs. I never doubt that when I need to be there for my family- Navy Federal will allow me the time."

"The most impressive part I found was their mother's room and their breaks for nursing mother's. While there are several steps to getting access to the mother's room, they are very impressive and they even provide hospital grade pumps and a starter kit. NFCU goes above and beyond for nursing mothers."

"NFCU is a great place for women to work- I have never felt as if my gender played a role in my ability to succeed here. I know more women in leadership positions than I do men (even our CEO is a woman). I am also apart of the LGBTQ+ community and I am welcomed by all leadership, we also have other LGBTQ+ folk that are in both direct leadership roles and higher on the chain. It is great to be represented and treated equally. I'm not nervous about inviting my wife (who also works here) to work events and outings or to speak about our family openly. Not to mention my wife and I have a 16-month old son and being able to WFM in our Hybrid work environment has been a major blessing- my wife also got 16 weeks of leave when our son was born and was given an addtl paid 30 minute break to nurse our son. I worked for another company at the time that did not give me any leave- left that job when he was only 1 month old to join NFCU and it's been the best decision I've made thus far professionally. "

"This answer depends on the job role. If your job is computer based only, I would give a 5 because there are now hybrid options that werent there before. but a job like mine that is partially hands on, there isnt much flexibility as of right now. hopefully that changes in the near future."

"Every supervisor I have had has been very supportive, but I have heard of other supervisors not being supportive, so its hit or miss, depends on who you get as a leader. There should be a way for supervisors to be a bit more empowered with decision making in areas of support, for example schedule changes have to be approved by senior management, but its our supervisors who work with us day to day and know how big of an effect that decision will have on the person making it. "

"They really care about families and your personal mental health! At my branch we have a "zen/yoga" room to take our breaks or to use on lunch or when you are feeling overwhelmed and stressed! There is a personal fridge for breast milk only. NFCU has a great work/life balance! Coming from a bank it still surprises me how great this company is!!"

"As a mother it was difficult to be there for my son while working for other companies. Once I started working for Navy Federal, it has changed our home life around. When I am with my colleagues I am valued and heard. My life with my son and his journey in life have been fantastic. I can be a successful business woman and an active parent to him. The safe environment Navy Federal has created has been one for the books and everyone should know it is never to late to love your job and what you do while having a life outside of work. "

"Navy Federal has a great culture, there are a lot of women in leadership positions and the opportunities for growth are equal between men and women (amazing opportunities). There is a wonderful parental leave program and the campuses have dedicated mothers rooms for pumping. Health insurance is also top notch. There are wellness centers on campus and you can make that dr your pcp and get all the basic stuff you need done. I get my yearly check up and well woman visit done every year for the first time in my life. "

"They focus on empowering women to develop themselves professionally for important and currently male dominated fields. We have a women in cybersecurity chapter, and there are a ton of women in leadership roles including both of my managers. "Equal and fair pay for men and women. The benefits for new moms is great! They offer 16 weeks of paid leave after your child is born and they also offer gifts like amazon gift cards. They even offer parental and/or adoption paid leave, for new parents to encourage bonding with their child. I think this aspect is amazing and helps all women feel inclusive to their benefits package. They also offer nursing parents private rooms to nurse and additional break time set aside to use for nursing as you need to. "

"I have been with NFCU for 6.5 years and feel that I have never been passed by due to me being a female. Equality is embedded within the culture and policies. Work life balance is important and leadership will make adjustments to accommodate employees if able. I look around and see women in leadership positions which made me strive to be in one as well. I love NFCU and my NFCU family. "

"The company has an incredible culture. Management is very pro-active in encouraging and enabling employees with the tools and resources to get into a position that makes them happiest. The maternity leave program is phenomenal. I have not personally witnessed any favoritism while I've been employed here. Every promotional and transitional process seems to be very fair."

"Navy Federal cares about their employees. They are willing to flex your hours to take care of personal issues that arise. They want to hear how they can improve the work place atmosphere as well as the processes of the work we do. They give small gifts of appreciation. This year alone I have received Free Lunch Fridays, free ice cream three times, a Corkcicle tumblers, an igloo fabric cooler, and a computer backpack. They have an events team that get with local companies to offer discount tickets to events and festivals around town. "

"Being a new mother Navy Federal offered a wonderful Parental Leave package that not only kept my family and I financially sound, but also allowing the time for me to spend with my newborn. The allotted time was significant with my transition back into work. Furthermore, my superiors at Navy Federal remained flexible towards my needs as a nursing mother. Great Company!"

"Navy Federal Credit Union is a great reflection of equality amongst men & women-there are women throughout the company that hold leadership positions in various departments. The benefits that are offered are great for new/expecting moms, as well as for women in general. There are hybrid working options to offer flexibility as well as the leaders in branch are always willing to help you out w/ whatever needs you may have. "They are amazing with work life balance. I have also had 2 children while working here FT over the last 8 years; not only is the maternity leave amazing, but they are also supportive of nursing mothers when I came back to the workplace. "Leadership and company policy never make you feel inferior or diminished for your gender. Maternity leave benefits are robust for both biological and adoptive parents. Company policy is very serious about equitable treatment. Overnight safety is taken seriously and parking lots are well-lit, camera monitored, and patrolled by security guards. "

"That the culture here is amazing. Is it perfect? Nope. But honestly, is anyone ? What I love most about working for NFCU is being able and often being empowered to pivot, shift, and change is always an option; especially when new data, insights, or feedback is relevant and demonstrates a positive impact to the teams and members. "Banking has always been a women-lead industry and Navy Federal does it's best to make sure we are appreciated and noticed. For every man on in upper management there are 2 women on a similar, or higher level. As a single mother, there are several things going on at home that require my attention at any given time, Navy Federal has never made me feel like my job is more important than my kids or home-life. The available sick leave being extended to my family is something I will forever be grateful for. The benefits provided for my kids through me as an employee, is top-notch as well. Also, positions for advancement are always readily available to me and the other women equally. Lastly, as a women in the LGBT+ community, it is not easy to find a place I can freely be myself without fear of discrimination. Navy Federal has not only celebrated my uniqueness, they also put me in a position to take lead in the Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging initiative at my current branch. I will always suggest a position at Navy Federal for anyone that cares to hear all the reasons why I love working here. With 'at-home' and hybrid opportunities, I cant think of a reason to not give it a shot! 5 Stars all around. "

"Navy Federal is a wonderful company to work for. As a woman I feel like I have endless possibilities to succeed and promote within the company. I do not feel as if I am treated any differently because of my gender. Leadership is very flexible with me when it comes to my home life and child care schedule. When I returned from maternity leave, there were additional breaks given so I could pump. They even have mother's rooms on campus, where I can comfortable and privately pump and store my belongings. The incentives and compensation are great, but the job security is what is most important to me. I feel valued and heard here!"

"Since I started with NFCU, I've had two children and the paid time off postpartum has been exceptional compared to other companies. I am so grateful to have been given so much time to spend bonding with my children in their first year of life. There are also amazing online resources, as well as time in the work day to pump if needed, and private rooms in the office to do so! I know so many other mothers whose companies provide little to no paid time off and I feel so blessed to work for such an amazing company. There are also so many female leaders and it does not feel male-dominated in any way. I'm always comfortable bringing any issues I have to my leaders and up the chain. I am always taken seriously and feel as though my voice is being heard. I cannot recommend NFCU more! "

"From the top down there are many women in leadership positions. We have a woman as president and if you looked at the financial industry you will see many institutions are still led by men. Navy Federal offers hybid work schedules, maternity and paternity leave, nursing rooms for new moms, and management has the flexibility to offer schedules that accommodate a working parent, not just a mom. "Navy Federal is a great company, they are flexible and the ability to transfer between billets is unmatched. As a military spouse, we have one of the highest unemployment rates. Navy Federal has made it easy to continue employment even with various movies due to military orders. "

"Yes, NFCU is all inclusive when it comes to flexibility, policies, work life balance, promotions, etc. It has been the best place I have worked for. As a mom, I can say that NFCU has been very accommodating when it came to maternity leave and nursing mother needs. "I started here as a contractor and I have been welcomed to the family as if I was a permanent employee. I just interviewed and got a permanent position and it is amazing. There are a lot of companies that talk about "culture" and Navy Federal lives the culture from the top down. The leaders and supervisors all are supportive. You have so much flexibility and the way that they treat you from the day you start until the day you decide to leave it doesn't change. We have so many women in leadership roles from CEO to EVP's and in between. I highly recommend it and the benefits are incredible!"

"The maternity leave is unreal! Navy Federal now offers 16 weeks of 100% paid leave for birthing mothers. That's an extension of 4 weeks from previous years. As an expectant mother, I can't begin to express what those 4 extra weeks will mean to me and my child. It is clear Navy Federal recognizes and support work life balance, especially in those early weeks with your child that you can't get back! "

"Don’t discuss your personal life, don’t trust anyone, don’t have any need for ADA or FMLA, watch your back, if anyone hugs you, they are looking for the best place to put the knife, and plan to either drink the kool-aid and like it or accept you will never be promoted and will be considered a “difficult” employee with problems."

"Full 12 weeks for maternity leave and very supportive of breast-feeding.
Our CEO is now a woman. You’ll find women at every level throughout the company. And the branches are definitely dominated by women. I personally have never had a male supervisor. My current supervisor is female, the manager is female , my regional manager is female… Ladies definitely can dominate in this company "

"If you are working in the branches… You have to understand that it’s still retail banking. Everyone says Bankers hours… The hours aren’t bad and you get every federal holiday off. But most week nights you’re not going home till six, So it makes having dinner with your family difficult especially if you have young kids. And you will be working most Saturdays. If you’re in California branches don’t close until four on Saturdays... So it kind of kills your weekend. In other states branches are closed at noon or 1 PM. I wish they would return California hours to the same as the rest of the branches."

"Generally good place to work. They encourage further education and professional growth activities. The location is the biggest issue with it being difficult to get to with public transportation and there can be parking headaches. "

" Overall a great place to work, especially for military spouses. I’ve seen this company go above and beyond to accommodate when a military spouse’s service member gets new orders. The 12 weeks of maternity leave is appreciated. Felt very supported taking nursing breaks when I returned to work. If you’re working in the branches it’s nice to know that you’ll have every Sunday off. "

"I loved his company, but FMLA only applies to areas where there are more than 50 employees in a specific geographical radius, so if you work in a branch office which does not have several others nearby, FMLA leave is unavailable. Instead, maternity leave is treated as a short term disability claim, meaning 6 weeks paid at a certain percentage of your salary (8 wks for C-section). It was because of this that I left the company. I returned to work when my child was 7 weeks old and it was just too difficult and expensive. Otherwise, I this this is a fabulous company for women, especially since most of the branches I worked for were staffed by a majority, if not all, women."
