"In order to get the full maternity benefit (it's good), you have to have worked at NU for 4 years first. It's worth the wait, but it's quite a commitment and requires advanced family planning. "

"Promotion opportunities are difficult to assess internally, but if you are able to crack the code, it's a great place to work. Or, if you're comfortable with either a lateral move, or growing within the same department without formal promotion. "

"Great benefits, great maternity leave, great retirement matching, and there is a huge effort across the university to (a) hire women in executive positions, and (b) raise the salaries of women who are not at a comparative level as their male counterparts."

"My maternity leave occurred RIGHT before they changed the leave from only 6-8 weeks of full disability pay (with option to keep job for 12 weeks, using accrued time off or as unpaid leave) to a full 12 weeks of maternity pay with the option of up to 6 months unpaid for employees who have worked here for at least a year. Paternity leave is also offered for up to 4 weeks. This applies to mothers/fathers who have adopted as well."

"The department definitely needs more women professors, but in my time here I didn't ever feel like I was discriminated against. The University as a whole is pretty good about promoting women-centered events and seminars as well through the Women's Center."

"There are a lot of women in higher up administrative positions, but on the whole women are more scarce among the faculty. Most of the business offices are made up of women, but men still seem to occupy the positions of power."

"Women are actually occupying many of the higher level positions here. However, women do not make as much money as men and you really need to push very hard during the negotiation stage. There is always more money available than they want you to believe. Also, maternity leave is not frowned upon here and people cover for you as much as possible when you're out."
