Welcome to I Love My Job, the series where we hear from women who really love their jobs. In this edition, we sat down with Beth Abate, Sales Operations Manager at Sonatype.
Beth has spent the past seven years growing her career at Sonatype, starting as a sales operations analyst before advancing to principal analyst and, most recently, stepping into her current leadership role as a manager.
Throughout her time at the company, Beth has worked closely with teams across the business—from sales and marketing to finance, legal, and product—helping ensure they have the tools, systems, and support they need to succeed. The variety of projects and cross-functional collaboration are just a few of the things that keep her energized in her role.
Beth also credits Sonatype’s culture with helping her grow. She describes a workplace where curiosity is encouraged, ideas are welcomed, and leadership is accessible. That environment, she says, has made it possible for her to learn continuously, expand her perspective, and step confidently into new opportunities.
We asked Beth about what excites her most about her work, what makes Sonatype’s culture stand out, how the company supported her recent promotion into management, and what advice she has for women considering a career at the company.
One of the things that I find most exciting about my job is that every day presents a unique challenge. There's variety in our projects and tasks, and who we work with and who we support.
There are some days when we are supporting our sellers in what they quote to the customers, and there are other days when we are working with marketing or legal teams, helping support them with the tools they use. Or working with our finance and accounting departments, or our product department, helping support them with their needs. So every day presents a unique challenge and a way for us to learn and to grow and to provide even greater support to the business.
I would describe our culture as very much one of inclusivity in terms of opinions and people. We love to hear new ideas. We're very big on collaboration. You never feel like being siloed into your department or the project that you're working on.
There have been countless times when I would get exposure to different aspects of the business because I was curious, and they welcome that.
My favorite thing about Sonatype is just how accessible everyone is—from leadership all the way down to interns. Everyone is working toward the same goal, and whenever you have a question, they are so accessible and willing to help in any way they can. If they don't have an answer for you, they'll point you in the direction of someone who does.
I got promoted recently from being a principal analyst all the way up to being a manager now, and [I feel so much support], from HR providing me with management resources, to someone in leadership like our VP of Finance offering me mentorship, to my director making sure that I have a good work-life balance now with my new tasks.
It's really comforting to see different aspects of the business encourage and support me in the role. I think it's just indicative of how they treat everybody else in the business. They want to see everyone thrive and win, because if one person thrives, then the company thrives.
My advice would be to join. We're building something really great here at Sonatype—not just with the products that we're building and selling to our customers, but with our culture.
I cannot stress enough that we need more women in tech. It's a great opportunity here. You get to build some really cool products. You get to build with some really cool folks. You would only be an added asset.
