Description

Leidos is seeking an experienced Senior Cloud Engineer to join our Mission Enablement Center (MDEC) Cloud Engineering Team in Reston, Virginia. This is a hybrid position requiring regular on-site presence in Reston, with flexibility to work remotely based on program and mission requirements.

This is a customer facing role and selected candidates will be required to present and demo Leidos Cloud platforms, facilitate technical exchange meetings, and provide engineering updates directly to leadership and external customers.

The selected candidate will support multiple federal and Department of Defense (DoD) programs, including InSight Mission Cloud, by developing secure, scalable, and repeatable cloud solutions. The position requires strong technical experience in cloud engineering, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), automation, DevSecOps, and cloud operations.

The ideal candidate is a self-starter who enjoys hands-on engineering, can manage multiple technical priorities, troubleshoot complex issues, collaborate with customers and technical teams, and mentor junior engineers.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Cloud Engineering: Design, deploy, configure, and sustain secure cloud and hybrid infrastructure, primarily across AWS and Azure, with additional support for OCI and GCP environments.
  • Infrastructure as Code and Automation: Develop and maintain reusable Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation, and other automation solutions for infrastructure provisioning, configuration management, and repeatable deployments.
  • Containerization and Kubernetes: Deploy, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain containerized applications and orchestration platforms, including Docker, Kubernetes, Amazon EKS, and Azure AKS.
  • DevSecOps and CI/CD: Develop, maintain, and troubleshoot automated build and deployment pipelines using GitLab, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, and related technologies.
  • Cloud Security and Compliance: Implement secure cloud configurations, identity and access controls, encryption, vulnerability remediation, and automated security scanning aligned with NIST SP 800-53, FedRAMP, DoD STIGs, and applicable federal requirements.
  • Cloud Operations and Sustainment: Support day-to-day operations, patching, monitoring, incident response, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis across mission-critical cloud environments.
  • Cloud Modernization: Support application migrations, cloud landing zones, infrastructure modernization, virtualization, and hybrid cloud integration.
  • Monitoring and Logging: Configure and maintain monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions using AWS CloudWatch, Azure Monitor, Splunk, Prometheus, Grafana, and related enterprise tools.
  • Technical Documentation: Develop architecture diagrams, deployment procedures, automation scripts, operational runbooks, and standard operating procedures.
  • Technical Leadership: Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, participate in engineering reviews, support complex troubleshooting, and contribute to engineering standards and best practices.
  • Cross-Program Support: Collaborate with MDEC engineers, program teams, customers, and vendors to deliver technical solutions across multiple federal and DoD programs.
  • Candidates must facilitate communication between stakeholders and lead engineering discussions.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field with 8+ years of relevant experience, or a master's degree with 6+ years of experience. Additional relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience designing, deploying, administering, and supporting cloud infrastructure.
  • Strong experience with AWS and/or Azure, including hands-on engineering in at least one platform and working knowledge of a second cloud platform.
  • Experience developing and maintaining Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation, or similar technologies.
  • Experience implementing and supporting CI/CD pipelines using GitLab CI/CD, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, or equivalent tools.
  • Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or cloud-managed container platforms such as EKS or AKS.
  • Strong understanding of cloud networking, including VPCs, VNets, subnets, routing, firewalls, security groups, load balancers, and VPN connectivity.
  • Experience administering and troubleshooting Linux and Windows Server environments.
  • Experience scripting and automating tasks using Python, Bash, PowerShell, or similar languages.
  • Understanding of cloud security, IAM, vulnerability management, encryption, logging, and monitoring.
  • Experience troubleshooting cloud infrastructure, networking, and platform issues in operational environments.
  • Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and support multiple engineering efforts.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience working with customers, engineers, and technical leadership.
  • Must reside within commuting distance of Reston, VA and be able to support a hybrid work schedule.

Clearance Requirements:

  • Active DoD Top Secret (TS) clearance with the ability to obtain SCI eligibility prior to the start date, or an active TS/SCI clearance.
  • Ability to meet additional security and access requirements associated with assigned programs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting DoD, Intelligence Community, or federal government cloud environments.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS GovCloud, Azure Government, OCI Government, or other regulated cloud environments.
  • Experience supporting DoD Impact Levels IL4, IL5, or IL6.
  • Experience with multi-cloud environments, shared cloud services, cloud landing zones, and managed cloud offerings.
  • Experience with cloud migration, application modernization, and hybrid cloud architectures.

  • Experience with security and vulnerability management tools such as Tenable, Splunk, Prisma Cloud, or equivalent solutions.
