Aug 2, 2024, 7:24:42 AM "Hi! I have been applying for teaching positions all my life. I have worked most of my life as a teacher. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in science and my education courses are in Foreign Languages. With my more than 20 years of teaching experience, lately, I have been interviewed by young people without teaching experience. It seems like these young people without teaching experience had decided not to hire me even before I arrived at the interview. It is a very frustrating situation. I think that these hiring team made of young people need a mature presence in their team to tell these young people without teaching experience that their decisions are wrong. These young people interviewed me 2 times in different days. The questions were the same in both interviews. I answered in those interviews different, but with the same answer with different examples for the questions. "
Aug 3, 2024, 7:31:13 AM "Ladies can I please get your feedback. About a month ago I've applied for an Senior Accountant position with a community college located in Baltimore Maryland. I did a phone interview with the Controller who oversee the Finance dept. Three weeks later I had a zoom meeting with the Controller and the Accounting Supervisor for the job role. I received an email from the Controller asking me to interview with her boss the VP of Finance and Administration. A few weeks ago I interviewed with her superior and during the interview I received an email stating they wanted to move forward with my application. My references were checked and background check was done. Upon completion and discussing offering of the position I received a phone call from Director of HR., stating they were rescinded the offering because I don't have an Accounting Degree. Now when I submitted my resume it shows that I don't have a Accounting Degree but my numbers of years identify my qualifications with 30+ years in the accounting field. "

Aug 4, 2024, 10:50:58 AM Hello Fairy Godboss community! I’ve been with a growing (like significant growth) healthcare company for 5.5 years and they’ve been in business 8 years. I’ve been in a Director position the entire time (leading initiatives and in charge of projects) and scored well on every evaluation. I am also the longest running person in my position company-wide. 2 months ago, My boss told me “they didn’t have the money for a Regional Director” as we are growing in locations. But the position was posted 3 days later online so I applied through the online HR system. I figured my boss would get with me when he “had the money & time,” when he was ready. I found out (by him) 2 weeks ago, they have already made an offer to a Regional Director, without even contacting or considering me. How long should I stick around? I feel so defeated like I’ll never get a chance to grow. I love this company and the team I work with on a daily basis but to be completely overlooked and not even considered has destroyed my confidence and willingness to work. ?

Aug 8, 2024, 3:35:27 PM I had 3 rounds of interviews (3rd being the final) for a role that took a week or two between them then when I was told it’d be another week to make a final decision but it ended up being another 2 weeks because their priorities shifted along with the tasks this person would be doing. Today I receive a rejection message and always the, “if something opens up we’d love to consider you again” line. I feel like I dodged something here... something just doesn’t feel right for some reason. It seems there’s a lot of this going lately in general but I don’t think it should be happening in the middle of an interview process. I guess I’m grateful I wasn’t totally ghosted. It just didn’t feel like they really knew what they were looking for or wanted.

Aug 8, 2024, 5:59:05 PM I was recently contacted by HR of a major firm within my industry to interview for a role that I knew I was not qualified. After a pre-screen call, I was still encouraged to apply despite my input on not having the right level of experience. As I expected, the hiring manager and I both agreed it wasn’t a good fit. He stated that there positions I would be better suited. The HR contact only handles a portion of open positions, but I did send a thank you note and asked to be considered for other roles where I am better suited. I applied for a post through LinkedIn a few days ago with the same company where I have direct experience. I received a rejection letter today. This job market is very confusing. I receive rejection letter after rejection letter for positions where I’m well qualified and am frequently sought out for positions where I’m overqualified or not a good fit. I suppose it’s a numbers game and a matter of good fortune. Trying to stay motivated ???

Aug 9, 2024, 7:45:33 PM I work on a very small team. Just my manager and one other coworker. We work remotely. My manager has said she doesn't want me asking anyone else questions and only direct questions to her. My coworker and I were on a call today and my manager must have seen that we were on a call. She told my coworker that she wants her not to talk to me but to direct any questions to her. This particular instance was a bit on the creepy side in my opinion because she did not know what we were talking about, just that we were talking, because the red meeting was on for both of us. I've been here over a year now and her micromanagement has continued to be a problem. But this comment to my coworker was disturbing. She doesn't even want us talking or collaborating with each other. What do you think of this behavior, telling my coworker she shouldn't talk to me? I find it weird especially being a manager. I would WANT my team to collaborate and learn from each other. Manager also does not want us to cross train. It's so strange.

Aug 12, 2024, 6:03:00 PM Advice on being singled out as the only female in a male-dominated team (automotive industry). I, a junior analyst, was recently moved to a corner office, getting isolated from my team and the rest of the department. Manager now only invites two other newly hired senior analysts out for lunch/dinner. My position is getting phased out and I’m training other senior analyst to “help” out with my current responsibilities. I sense a layoff coming, already looking for new opportunities but I’m having a hard time coping with the new changes. I feel very lonely at work, having sat away from the rest of everyone I previously interact with in my department. I’m struggling with resentment for my current manager and feel blindsided with the news.
Aug 12, 2024, 9:20:00 PM I've been working at a job for almost 6 months & I can already notice a pattern that has been occurring with my supervisor always trying to find a way to get out of going to events. Today my job had an event that we were sponsoring that I thought my supervisor was going to. WRONG. I already was not feeling that great when she texted me & said \im just checking to see if you will be there to help the Director tonight. I completely forgot i took PTO to be w/my family that came in on Friday. They leave tonight. The Director said she will be okay as long as you are there.\" Um wtf?! I just feel like she is just taking advantage of me at this point. She made it sound as though she was going to be at the event a few days ago & NEVER mentioned anything about taking PTO & having family in town. I told her I wasnt feeling well & that I may need tl leave early because im not feeling that well. Its ONLY 3 OF US ALTOGETHER. We dont have any other staff members to help. This isnt the first time my supervisor has pulled this crap either.

Aug 16, 2024, 9:16:08 AM I started a remote job in February with a new software company in an east coast state. I am in another part of the country. There are only 5 of us on the team. The parent company we are attached to has a different business model. My boss and I have been doing mostly work for the parent company and not much for the one we work for. There is a lot of tension and childish bickering between him and the IT team. I figured it would improve with time and I just had to get used to the new baggage at a new job. All jobs have baggage. But now as I am getting more into the flow it seems to be getting worse. I am getting drawn into more and want nothing to do with it. I just want to do my job. My boss constantly complains to me about the issues with the IT team. I was in a meeting yesterday where they were all acting like children till the CEO said to stop and come to a solution. There are some other issues too, with my boss encouraging me to speak at a conference but then wanting to write my presentation. When I asked him to let me do it since I was the one speaking he just kept \helping\" and adding to the presentation. He also constantly complains to me about everyone else. I find myself wondering what he is saying about me to others. The salary is amazing. More than I ever have made. Fully remote is good because I have health issues. But man I am starting to wonder if it is worth it. I have been so stressed. I did great at the beginning about keeping my head down and just doing my work. It is getting harder and I am not sure what to do. I am trying to be the grown-up in the sea of man babies..but it is really hard to deal with."

Aug 17, 2024, 10:19:50 AM I’m annoyed I’m 30 years old. I quit my job at 29 because of a toxic workplace. They paid me only one check to do two jobs. My supervisor that used that would help take some of the blows for me left and when the other leadership came it was my expectation to do the work. I had to reinterview for my job because they had to justify my position from part-time to full time. I had an office coordinator position but during the interview I was told that I would be working the budget which was not told to me prior and I would have to do a presentation. I have never heard of doing a presentation for a non academic position. I thought usually people in academics did presentations for jobs positions. The salary was disappointing which was the last straw for me. I went to do a call center job right after and nobody warned me how stressful that could be. Everyday I was almost to tears because I needed the job and it was my first full-time job. After 6months of the constant blows I could not take it anymore and I left again. Present day, it has not been easy to find a job. I have a degree in Marketing but the companies that I have been applying to are not calling me back. I have found that when I put my high school education and I have gotten more of a call back. When I go to the interviews I believe I do well, I ask for feedback but no one gives it. It took me a while to decide on the specific field I want to try but I have little experience in that field. I did get a call back for a job in the field but now I am nervous because I don’t know what to study for the potential interview about the job. I just know that job really sounds good and I want to do my best, what should I do? It’s really overwhelming to study so much stuff in a short period of time. The recruiter says there may be interview slot to open this week.

Aug 19, 2024, 10:09:13 AM My daughter works for a company (foreign) that heavily track their travel during work hours. The company own the vehicles and she's a field salaried worker. After a morning meeting the staff was asked to follow a new management member to their vehicles for inspection. While my daughter discretely watched and thought he was looking at cleanliness, inventory, etc. She is a high performer so journals because they already heavily micromanage and track by phone. The new manager claimed to have dropped his keys but instead inserted a tracking device in her pickup. Other workers found the same. The issue is they were not advised of this. This is a Georgia company. I'm a retired HR Professional and try to stay informed. There are so many nuances and I'm researching but would like some insights. Your thoughts are greatly appreciated. Best,

Aug 21, 2024, 5:11:19 AM I’m new to working with a staffing agency. Is it normal for them to ask for two references and your social security number if you have not been hired by them? They are seeking to fill a role immediately, they contacted me on Tuesday for my preliminary interview and to discuss interview times for Wednesday, I told the recruiter my availability and she told me that was fine and she would call me back after her meeting to do interview prep. She was on west coast time so I was waiting around for her call but she never did. Then another recruiter from the same company called to ask for two references and my social security number. He texted me to ask me to interview prep on the morning of the interview. No one ever sent anything about the interview confirmation even after I asked him on Tuesday and he told me he would send it once he got to the office. This morning he sent me another text message to ask if I had availability to do interview prep. I know they are hiring fast but I don’t have a good feeling about it and I feel rushed. To not know the location or how I’ll have to maneuver and the changes in people without notification worries me. Should I continue forward?

Aug 22, 2024, 11:54:44 AM Resignation Advice
Aug 22, 2024, 1:37:11 PM Hi Everyone,
Aug 22, 2024, 1:50:49 PM Retirement? Or not
Aug 23, 2024, 7:33:25 AM I need an advice. Today, I am about to resign from a toxic, filled with gaslighting culture, workplace. I am grateful for the chance to exit with grace. However, I am torn whether I should send the HR a letter detailing gaslighting and at times discriminatory behavior of my immediate supervisor? The letter would serve as a warning to protect others who are still working at the company and home I hold in great regard. While my supervisor was an instrument of toxicity, I believe that she was infected by the company's culture and was acting as its tool. I do not hold her personally responsible for 100% of the damage. But the letter would only name her and I am hesitant for the hammer to come down on her only. This would be unjust. Do I send the letter or burn in and move on with my life?
Aug 23, 2024, 8:11:18 AM I have been searching for a new role for some time after being in my current job for a little over a year. The job has been disappointing mostly due to the manager and not having enough technical challenge compared to prior roles. I had spoken to the head of the dept about other roles and I can tell that he has talked with my manager about her micromanaging problem and reluctance to give me any work of substance. She recently said that they are trying to promote my job title to a higher role. I am getting interviews and if I find a new position that is more in line with what I want to do, I am finding myself feeling guilty for wanting to leave. If they promote me to a higher level role and I still want to leave, why do I feel guilty? My manager uses cutting remarks to help her feel good about herself and I can tell she is reluctant about giving me more opportunities, but doing it because her manager is telling her to. I just want to be happy and valued in my role and I am tired of her personal passive aggressive insults.

Aug 27, 2024, 6:25:16 AM "This question is for the creatives out there. After an initial interview for a textile design position, the hiring manager asked me to complete some homework in order to be considered for the role. I have been working as a fashion designer for 9 years and have a degree in textile design. It’s a pretty lengthy design project which in my opinion could easily take a full weeks work. I’ve copied the brief below. I know these types of projects are common in design but still it seems insane to be asked to devout this kind of time to unpaid labor in hopes of getting a job. What are your views on speculative work? Is it worth it or not worth it? I feel like it’s time that could be better spent on my paid freelance clients or continuing to apply elsewhere. Let me what you all think! "
